The mother who speaks little English is hesitant to give consent for the immunizations; she indicates through an interpreter that immunizations for an infant are prohibited in her culture. The nurse is aware that there is an outbreak of pertussis in the neighborhood where this family lives. Discuss the ethical dilemma using the principles of autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice; consider the nurse, the mother, the infant, & the community.

Infant/Baby Soy Formula Fed Babies Now Adults? Please help me. I just found out that soy infant formula is poison for babies. My son was on it after 1month old until he was almost 9mo. I just took him off of it the other day after finding out. I would like to hear from everyone that sees this that was formula fed soy instead of dairy or breast milk. Or anyone that knows of individuals fed soy and if everything worked out for the child. What is your age? Are you Male or Female? Do you have health issues - thyroid, leukemia, tumors, parkinsons, ADD, etc? Are you heterosexual? (soy has estrogens in it that can alter brain chemistry when testosterone is trying to regulate), Are you average height and weight? Please respond. I really appreciate your answers. My baby boy means the world to me and I feel horrible for exposing my son to it. Thanks. Thanks for all the replies so far. Please keep them coming. Here are some of the links I have: http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html http://www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/04babyhealth.htm http://www.mothering.com/articles/growing_child/food/soy_story.html http://www.washidostudio.com/articles/soyhealthyorharmful.htm http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?article_id=53507 http://reliableanswers.com/med/soy.asp

Should an infant illegal alien life be saved if it has no health insurance? This is just a scenario. Suppose a family of illegal aliens were in a bad auto accident and the baby was critical should it be turned away from emergency care because of no insurance and no one wants to pay for it? I just see so much talk here about illegal aliens getting health care but wonder how this would be handled if all illegal aliens are turned away. Who will pay for it and should the innocent baby die? I like to think it wouldn't be turned away and don't beleive it would but if the government can't be involved then who pays for it. They can't all be pro bono (free).
What kind of sick insurance company denies a baby health coverage? Acid reflux, a benign condition which afflicts about 50 percent of infants, can exempt otherwise healthy babies from coverage in the individual insurance market place, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08216/901545-114.stm And conservatives who support our private health care system are suppose to be the ones who hold the morale high ground on family values??? Right...only focus on abortion, but completely forget about the thousands who died in Iraq, the thousands who die from air pollution, and the thousands who die from lack of a health insurance plan. Republicans are hypocrites to the core.
Question about baby's health?? Pregnant at 24 weeks and have a question about baby's health? Hey one of my girl friend wrote to me that her little 7 month old daughter had a stomach virus since Thanksgiving morning. Is this email okay? Here's what I wrote back to her: "Oh, I am sorry to hear about her. What may have caused the virus. Can she take any medicine for it, if so what kind? I need to be aware of this stuff." Does my response to her sound selfish especially my last sentence of needing to know this stuff? I need to know it cause I am pregnant with my child and will soon be looking at medicines and baby health. She has not replied back tome since then, so I hope she is not mad at me. I mean as much as I care for her and her baby, I have a right to know for my child as well? Virusus and ear infections and fevers are so common in little infants that it's fine what I asked her in my reply right ladies? The I need to be aware of this stuff does not sound like she needs to tell me this stuff earlier or something does it? I mean I wrote that line after asking her about medicine for her girl.

Health class Baby project....how many diapers/formula a baby needs? HELP!!!!!!? Ok, for my health class, we had to carry around a baby doll for three days and stuff and carry it everywhere (bus, subway, class to class, etc.). Now there is a written project connected to this. I need help answering some of the questions. I would like it if the answers came from someone who has experience with babies. A. Food: formula for three months, SHOW and EXPLAIN calculations (2) Be specific – brand? (liquid, powder or concentrate) How many ounces per day would an infant need? How much would you need to buy? Total cost of formula for the 3 months? Diapers: for three months, SHOW and EXPLAIN calculations (2) Be specific – size? Brand? How many per day? How many in package? Total cost of diapers for the 3 months? Example: Pampers Swaddlers: 96- Count Value Box- Newborn $$ I basically need to know how many diapers a baby goes through a day and how much formula it needs a day. The baby is a newborn to three moths-ish. Thanks! *SIGH* DON'T TELL ME TO DO MY OWN HOMEWORK.I'm already pissed that we have to this stupid project with a stupid budget and such. They gave us 1800 bucks to use for three months. We are not allowed to breastfeed. We have no family, according to the project. And when they wnt the amount of formula, they are looking for the average. Thnks Thank you so much ck! I agree with you. The health department at my school (it's an all girls school, so you can imagine 200 sophomores carrying around 20" baby dolls for three days, lol) is really messed up. They have no children of their own, so how the hell would they know?! lol. :)
infant health insurance? I know that the baby is covered under my policy while we are still in the hospital. After I leave the hospital, will the child still be considered under my policy, or will he need his own. If he needs his own, does anyone know how long I have to get him on my insurance.

Could you accidentally send your baby though an x ray machine? A woman going through security at Los Angeles International Airport put her month-old grandson into a plastic bin intended for carry-on items and slid it into an X-ray machine. The early Saturday accident — bizarre but not unprecedented — caught airport workers by surprise, even though the security line was not busy at the time, officials said. A screener watching the machine's monitor immediately noticed the outline of a baby and pulled the bin backward on the conveyor belt. The infant was taken to Centinela Hospital, where doctors determined that he had not received a dangerous dose of radiation. Officials, who declined to release the 56-year-old woman's name, said she spoke Spanish and apparently did not understand English. She initially didn't want the baby transported to a hospital, but security officials called paramedics and insisted that the child be examined by a doctor. The grandmother and the child were subsequently allowed to board an Alaska Airlines flight to Mexico City. The rare incident drew attention to whether officials are staffing often-busy security checkpoints enough to prevent such an accident. And it raised questions about the danger of X-rays used to pick out suspicious metal shapes in passenger bags, given the medical community's warnings that even low amounts of radiation can build up over a lifetime. "Rather than focus on the radiation dose, which is a small amount, we need to focus on why this happened, so it doesn't happen again," said Dr. James Borgstede, a diagnostic radiologist at Penrose-St. Francis Health Systems in Colorado Springs, Colo., and president of the American College of Radiology. "Human beings weren't meant to go through those things." In the several seconds the baby spent in the machine, the doctor added, he was exposed to as much radiation as he would naturally get from cosmic rays — or high energy from outer space — in a day. Security experts said the incident underscored a more widespread concern about the screening process at LAX and other airports. "The screeners are still reporting that they're being pushed," said Brian Sullivan, a retired Federal Aviation Administration security agent. "If a baby can get through, what the hell else can get through?" Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration, which manages LAX screeners, said the agency doesn't have enough workers to constantly stand at tables in front of the screeners to coach passengers on what should or should not be sent through X-ray machines. But in some cases, airlines contract with private companies to staff the tables and assist travelers. The TSA will also occasionally put employees at the tables if extra workers are available. TSA screeners often ask passengers to put their coats, shoes, laptops and other items into the bins, Melendez said. But they cannot observe everything people place there, because they must monitor screening equipment, he added. Still, he said that the TSA works hard to educate passengers about what carry-on objects require screening and that travelers must take responsibility for knowing these rules. "There's an obligation on the traveler to use some common sense," said Larry Fetters, the TSA's federal security director at LAX. "If they don't understand, they should ask somebody. If they ask us, we are generally able to find someone who speaks that language and assist them." On its website, the TSA posts extensive tips for travelers, including a section titled "Traveling With Children." One item reads: "Never leave babies in an infant carrier while it goes through the X-ray machine." There are also signs posted in English and Spanish at ticket counters and near security checkpoints warning passengers that they must put metal objects, such as cellphones, pagers and car keys, into bins that go through X-ray machines.
How does someone reconcile being pro-life and anti-health care reform given US infant mortality stats? In 2009 the US ranked 29th in the world and the 2nd worst in the developed world. This is compared to past rankings such as 27th in 2000, 23rd in 1990 and 12th in 1960. Infant mortality rate breaks down as the following: total: 6.37 deaths/1,000 live births male: 7.02 deaths/1,000 live births female: 5.68 deaths/1,000 live births (2007 est.) http://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/news/20081015/infant-mortality-us-ranks-29th http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/09/19/country_facts/main3277507.shtml YA is Liberal Bias: There are millions of working poor in the US who do not qualify for medicaid. And not that I need to justify myself, but I worked in the South Bronx for a number of years.

Health insurance for baby? Anyone know any health insurance companies that cover babies right after birth? I found out last night that my insurance won't cover my baby the second the cord is cut because I'm under my dad's policy and she is not/will not be his dependent. I do NOT want to go on government insurance, so are there any other companies that will cover infants from birth on? Thanks in advance.
How do you know if your infant is considered an apple, banana, or a pear baby? I read these terms on website concerning infant weight gain, but it didn't explain how a baby is fit into each. This part of the article was covering infant weight gain in regards to metabolism. Anyone know what this means? Here is the site if anyone wants to take a look: http://www.newbornbabyzone.com/health-safety/know-the-variations-of-your-baby-weight-gain/ By the way my boy is a month and half old, 20 1/2 inches and 10 lbs... which do you think he is considered? This site made me curious as to what they exactly meant by using these terms. I found this article while googling average infant weight gain charts.
Why cant you put a baby in a stage one car seat before they are 9kgs? I have asked various people including someone at britax and my health visitor and they all said the same thing, because its not safe. But no one can tell me why. My baby is sitting up confidently and is as tall as a 12 month old but quite slender. She is out growing her infant carrier as she has to have her legs scrunched up. I bought her a next stage car seat in readiness but i'm told its not safe. Why? have asked various people including someone at britax and my health visitor and they all said the same thing, because its not safe. But no one can tell me why. My baby is sitting up confidently and is as tall as a 12 month old but quite slender. She is out growing her infant carrier as she has to have her legs scrunched up. I bought her a next stage car seat in readiness but i'm told its not safe. Why? I'm not planning on putting my baby into the new seat till she's ready. I think the reason us mums are so keen to get them into the next car seat is that they are permanently belted into the car so there is not so much back breaking seat belt twiddling to do.
What can I give my baby to replace breast milk? Due to my health reasons and medications I am taking, I will not be able to breast feed my baby. I was wondering what is the best formula at the market for a infant? I saw some brands online but which is best? I prefer something organic or natural
Why are people so uninformed about US health care? 50 million people don't have it, it costs more than any other country, Canada has a higher life expectancy and a lower infant mortality than the US and the US is 37th in the world in health CARE, France is number one. Us has the least generous welfare programs in the industrialized world, other countries have less poverty, less homelessness, less infant mortality, less underweight babies, less domestic abuse and less crime. We pay more than other countries because of prescription drugs, co payments and insurance premiums. Why are people so uneducated and uninformed. Americans go to Canada to get cheaper prescription drugs, we need a system of nationalized helath care now. Americans are really uninformed, please go back to school. Also I was wondering are a lot of Americans by the corporate controlled media who is in the interests of the pharamaceutical industries who want their corporate run pay go system that leave 1/6 Americans without health care?
What can I do/ I'm at my wits' end? my bf DENIES our cat is a health risk to baby (and us)? okay i posted last night but i still am racking my brain. i cant let go of this worry and i think i have valid reasons. we have a 4-month-old daughter. we also have a cat. the cat is indoor but since about a year and a half ago has had on again off again worms---tape worms. anyways we've taken her to the vet before, they'd treat her, but lately we havent and bam she has them again. so here's where I'm going crazy; My boyfriend wont "let' me take her to the vet. he says shes "his' cat bc he got her from his mother's who has had her for several yrs. I dont care about that but it bothers me he wont take her himself or let me. he claims that he can treat her at home. well all he gives her is a cheap delfleaing treatment and otc worm pill and it doesnt work. his mom came over today. she acts like this cat is a person. I told her my concerns about the cat giving it to our 4-month-old baby girl, who I am more concerned about. she says "no its not contagious' well Ive looked SO much stuff on it, and so many articles say it is! then I called an pediatric advice nurse and a vet tech, and BOTH said though unlikely, it can be spread. i am worried bc the cat is around the baby a lot, i try to keep ehr away but its a small apartment. anyhow, my bf refuses to listen to me. He falt out denies its a health risk. His mom denies it. How can they both be right, and everybody else---including a vet tech and advice nurse---be wrong? I am probably going to take the cat to the vet tomorrow without even telling him. But it makes me so mad that i have to do that. and i'm also going to make an appointment with my baby's pedi to be tested through stool sample just so I can have peace of mind. I am livid that he denies facts as well as his stupid animal freak mother. She claims she's equiavalant to a vet just bc she spent years training horses as a HOBBY not a profession. I'm also going to have my pedi write him a note, or leave him a message stating it IS transmissble from cats to humans, particularly children (which I'm assuming includes young infants) how would you feel if this was your baby? what would you do? am i over-reacting? and why wont he listen to me? I almost want to leave him bc of this and stay at my parents' house, but over there is no haven either bc my dad smokes inside the house and wont go outside for anyone, not even my baby. and they too have pets---but ive never heard of them having worms. and i know the otc stuff isnt working bc it keeps coming back like every few weeks and i know the otc stuff isnt working bc it keeps coming back like every few weeks please help any moms out there please!
Where can I get affordable health insurance for an infant? I'm having a baby around the first week of December, and I need to figure out how best to set up health insurance for her without going bankrupt. I looked into Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, and to be eligible for a child-only plan, the baby has to be atleast one year old. For us to get a family plan the cost is absolutely through the roof, more than our monthly income, and even then the child is only covered from 6 weeks of age. Does anyone know of any companies that will insure a baby from birth, without the parents having to be insured? I'm giving birth at a birthing center, and one of the terms of care is that I have to take the baby to a pediatrician within 72 hours of birth. No decent pediatrician will accept us without insurance. I think we may actually be eligible for Medicaid, but I don't want to go that way because high quality doctors don't accept that around here. So can someone please suggest a company that I can go to to insure my baby affordably, in Florida. The reason I'm reluctant to use a Medicaid-accessible pediatrician is because my family has alternative views on vaccinations and medication. It is against my religion to give a child under 5 any vaccinations, and even after that live vaccines are a no-no. Legally, I am entitled to this choice but I need some kind of leverage to convey these things to the pediatrician without just fighting over morels. If I'm not even paying for the care, I have no leverage to present an alternative philosophy.
How much (rough estimate is fine) do the following pregnancy/baby needs cost w/o insurance? *the cost of the tests you receive during pregnancy to check for problems *A well-baby visit (how many are needed in the first year?) *A sick-baby visit *immunizations for an infant It's a project for senior health where you put yourself in the scenario of being pregnant without insurance. I totally dropped the ball on this one (read: waited until the last minute), so if you can help, I'd REALLY appreciate it!
Other than biting are there any other health issue w/ having an infant and ferret in the same room? We had to move in w/ his family in Alaska from Texas. I am due in a couple of weeks. Because of rooming issues the ferret cage has to b in either the garage or our bedroom. My mother-in-law is a has a medical degree and wants them out of the bedroom because of parasites and other health risks. I don't want them in the garage b/c of the cold- so far we've barely hit the 80's- and other garage related reasons. The cage is kept clean and seperate from the crib. Cats and dogs have cause more health issues for babies than ferrets- and thay have dogs and cats and fish in the house. Any facts or websites i can use to help?
If my baby kicks a lot, does this mean she will be an active child? I am 8 months pregnant, and my baby kicks, moves and wiggles almost constantly. Does this mean she will be a hyper infant? Does it have anything to do with her health? Some of her kicks are painful! (don't get me wrong, I am glad to know she is okay from her movement). Just wondering what anyone else's experience was with an active baby after birth. Also, could the constant movement trigger labor? I am being treated for cervical insufficiency and preterm labor.
Did anyone read the heart breaking story of the infant that died as a result of being fed a strict vegan diet? That is so terribly sad and unfair to that poor defenseless child. It's one thing for an adult to adopt a vegan lifestyle and the risks that go hand in hand with the vegan diet, but quite another to risk the life of ones child by feeding them a vegan diet that is clearly not suitable for an infant. I hope that this will be a wake up call for vegans that are presently feeding there newborn a vegan diet, or considering doing so for a baby that is on the way. For goodness sake, what an awful thing to do. I hope that the vegans that inflicted this upon that poor child are locked up for good. It should be a criminal offense in all circumstances when parents intentionally feed there children a vegan diet, which is obviously detrimental to the childs well being. http://digg.com/health/Vegan_Parents_Starve_Baby_to_Death_on_Soy_Milk_Apple_Juice_Diet EDIT Come on BLUESEA, you say the fact that these parents were vegan had nothing to do with there childs death? Get Real! It have everything to do with it. The fact that they were vegan is precisely why they fed the child a vegan diet. You cannot arbitrarily dismiss the FACT that these parents were vegans. EDIT Katie G Granted, these parents were obviously not very bright. However, they were vegans and were feeding there child a vegan diet, and the child died as a result. It is indefensible. The vegan diet killed this baby. That is the reality in spite of any twist you may want to put on it. And even if an infant were receiving what you believe would be an acceptable vegan diet, the childs health would still be at serious risk because a childs nutritional needs can simply not be adequately met on a vegan diet. They may quite likely survive in spite of the deficiencies, but would none the less quite likely have health issues at a later time as a result of being fed a vegan diet in there formative years. It amazes me that people are actually coming to the defense of these vegan parents who killed there child be imposing the vegan diet upon the baby. I can see you are not going to let rational thought and facts get in your way of your defending veganism. BLUESEA So now you are not denying that the parents were vegan. Instead, you are now denying what they were feeding the child was vegan. Precisely when was it that it became forbidden that vegans could not drink soy milk or fruit juice? I must have missed that news bulletien. And I am not assuming that all vegans would be foolish enough to treat there child in such a way. However, these particular vegans did just that. And as I said earlier, regardless of what you feed the child, if it is an exclusively vegan diet, it would be highly likely that it would not be sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of the child for achieving optimal health. Please hop down off of your vegan high horse and join the rest of us in the realm of reality. This is so typical of vegans. When one of your own acts irresponsibly you simply won't own up to it. Absolute arrogance. So typical of vegans. ANONYMOUS Aren't you a breath of fresh air. You sure seem like a pleasant little fellow. The way you started your post with the insults was simply superb, what's your strategy - if you can't dazzle them with brilliance and facts, just resort to name calling. Your just brilliant, buddy, just plain brilliant. "As far as you know, 6 week-olds do not eat anything other than their mothers milk." Well, pal, apparently this particular vegan mommy and daddy had other ideas, and decided it would be best to feed the child soy milk and fruit juice. And you state that "The problem here is not that these parents were vegans. They were stupid and irresponsible." Well, bud, the fact is, the way it should be put is like this, "They were stupid and irresponsible VEGANS." And any vegan who feeds there new born an exclusively vegan diet is not only stupid and irresponsible, but also CRIMINAL. Your argument is not valid and completely without merit. ok ANONOYMOUS What is one to think of someone who resorts to insults because they find it amusing to do so, and you get a little thrill out of it? I'm not the one being hateful, kind sir. Pehaps you should not be casting stones in as much as you are blatantly guilty of that which you accuse me.......And sure thing, bud, there are just vegans from birth running around everywhere, sure, whatever ya say, partner.....All I have stated is that the parents were vegans, they fed the child only foods that were vegan, and the child died. That cannot be disputed. They are facts. And the FACTS are that it places the childs health in danger by feeding them a vegan diet, even if it is what would be considered a varied and well balanced vegan diet, becuase there are so many foods they are restricted from eating that it would be very difficult for the child to get all of the nutrition required for optimal health in there formative years. Feeding a child a vegan diet should be criminal. continued.....I will not resort to petty name calling like yourself. Now that you have been schooled, consider yourself enlightened. BLUE SEA Please forgive me assuming that you were vegan. Judging by your reaction, you seem to have found that insulting. The facts of the matter are: The parents were vegan. They fed the child foods that were considered vegan. The child died. Those are facts. Period! Granted, these vegan parents apparently had a few screws loose. (imagine that, a vegan with a few loose screws!) And I am not insinuating that all or for that matter any other vegan parents would be so misguided as to feed there child such a dificient diet. I am, however, stating that I and many others are of the firm belief that a vegan diet is certainly not a good diet for a child, especially in there formative years, as they would quite likely suffer from nutritional dificiencies.......Having a difference of opinion is an opportunity for dialogue, and is no reason to become hostile and rude. You should work on your manners, missy, your social skills appear to be lacking just a bit. Cheers. ANONOYMOUS So long as you keep reading SCOASSO Thanks for helping to spread the word. ALADIN I am sorry to disappoint, I truly am. After all, with everything we have shared, I am really upset with myself. I am always devastated when I disappoint one of my many fans within this forum, you in particular. I have fallen short and not met your expectations, and I apparently have not met the bar that I had set high with my previous posts. This is not my finest moment, but I will persevere. And I don't know that I am any smarter than the average Joe, probably not. But perhaps a bit brighter than your average vegan, certainly more enlightened. And for the record, flattery will get every where with me. But I digress....Now to the meat and potatoes of the matter, but hold the meat I suppose. The vegans that killed this baby were idiots. Certainly not all vegans, in fact very few, are this foolish. However, my points were valid and cannot be disputed. I did not imply that all vegan parents that give there children a vean diet continued........ I did not imply that all vegan parents that that feed there child a vegan diet were idiots like the fools who killed there baby because of the way they fed it. What I implied is that I and many others believe that the vegan diet does not supply adequate nutrition for a child in there formative years, and that if someone feeds there child a vegan diet and there are serious health consequences as a result, it should be a criminal matter. And the fact of the matter is that the parents who killed there baby were vegan, and they fed there child foods that are vegan and nothing else. I did not say they fed the child what would be considered an appropriate vegan diet. And I do not believe that all vegans make bad parents. However I do believe that they are misguided and foolish for feeding there child and exclusively vegan diet. I simply do not believe optiaml health can be achieved for the long term on a vegan diet, not for an adult and especially not a child. continued....That being said, I know that all diets can be deficient, but the vegan diet, even when done properly, is simply not suitable for a child in my estimation............All the hostility that I have received from this post really make me wonder if it is really worth my effort to spread the word with regard to the deficiencies in the vegan diet. But when I think about all of the pain and suffering that perhaps people may be able to avoid if they heed my advice to stay away from veganism, it gives me the energy to persevere. Because I know that if I can discourage even only one or two people from adopting the vegan diet, I am doing something to alleviate the suffering that can result from long term veganism. I consider it my gift to humanity. Thanks for your encouragement, you have made my efforts all seem so worthwhile. In spite of some of the hostility and rudeness I have encountered, not to worry, you can count on me persevere and continue in my efforts. I think I need some boots It's getting awfully deep in here SCOCASSO I to thought Titantic was a great film. Perhaps we can get together for movies and a little popcorn some time....Toodles! Sorry SCOASSO, that last post was for my buddy ANONYMOUS. And after reading some of his posts, I think that is certainly an appropriate screen name, don't you think so?
Dogs and babies health? We have a 2+month old puppy (chihuahua/Terrier mix), we've had her for about a month now. But now that my mom has an infant, she doesnt want the dog in the house. She says 'the germs will harm the baby, doesnt matter if hes a room away'. She wants to give the dog away, but me and my brothers have grown attached to it. Can dogs really harm a baby's health if its yards away?
Can multiple colds, and minor health issues cause an infant to have delayed development? My little one cried from the time she was one month old until she was 6 months old. Non stop, colic type crying all hours she was awake. The best we and the Dr. could determine was it was acid reflux, but medication would help for only a short time and then suddenly lose it's effect. She grew out of it early but by 6 months old was showing significant developmental delays. We saw improvement but as she began cutting teeth and had a couple of minor issues, she still had a rough time and wasn't a very happy baby. By 11 months old she was sitting up, crawling and able to say dadadada (not meaning Daddy). Just before her first birthday she developed a horrible cold, ear infection, etc, that basically didn't go away for two months. During that time she stopped being vocal at all, and now (at 15 months), for the past month or so she's just doing "aaaahhh" type sounds but has made tremendous progress in other areas, she's happy, more outgoing, more attentive to things going on around her, more interested in actually playing with toys, can stand while holding onto something, walk around furniture, etc. I was very happy with this progress but her pediatrician, not so much. She still thinks something is "missing." She has been getting pt/ot and is being referred for speech therapy too, and her Doctor also wants her to be seen by a developmental specialist, but there's a huge waiting list. So in the meantime I'm just wondering if anyone else has had an experience with their child's temporary medical problems interfering with development. (Also, she began early intervention at 6 months, has been evaluated for hearing and vision with no problems.)
I need health insurance for my baby... please help.? Sadly we missed the open enrollment date at my husbands job to add our infant son. He could have been added up to 30 days after he was born and we missed the date. We filed an appeal and they denied us. So now I have a 3 month old who has no insurance and cannot see a doctor for his shots or if he gets sick. We make too much money for like medical or healthy families but not enough to afford expensive private insurance for him. ANy advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you
Can Infant Vaccinations Cause This Type of Rash? My 2 month grandson had his first set of baby shots Friday. He has not had any real problems that are noticible, but over the weekend he has started getting a reddened rash that feels like fine sandpaper to touch. I have read over the pamphlets that were given to me, but they only describe a rash that occurs immediately accompanied by fever, wheezing. He has none of the other symptoms, only the rash. Is this a common thing for babies to experience from their shots. The health office is closed until tomorrow and I can not get him into his doctor until this Friday.
What happens if you give your infant formula that was in the fridge and she had already eaten off it? My husband had been putting left over formula in the fridge during the night that our baby had didn't finish and when she woke up he would reheat the formula and give it to her. I didn't realize this until the other day. Our baby has been fine acting, everything normal as usual. What are the health risk with this happening? He said he only did it no more than 4 or so times and it was in small amounts.
If women's health issues can be forced on baby boys, should we force men's health on baby girls? If women's health issues can be forced on baby boys, should we force men's health on baby girls? (The answer is we shouldn't do either.) Many women feel it's fair to circumcise all boys at birth, because studies show it reduced cervical cancer. The foreskin is the most sensitive part of the penis, it has 20,000 nerve endings. It's the primary source for male sexual pleasure. It has 2/3 the nerve endings of the intact penis. It's it selfish for women to want to force an adult female health issue on INFANT boys? Would we ask the same of women , to benefit mens health? If boys have to sacrifice for women, shouldn't ti go the other way around? If there was a perfectly identical procedure for girls, and it was shown to reduce a virus that causes prostate cancer, would it be fair to force on baby girls for the sake on male health? Adult health issues shouldn't be forced on babies Safe sex and hygiene prevent STD infection, and women can always choose to refrain from sex with an uncircumcised male. Mutilation is NOT the answer
How did the infant formula companies get my address to send free samples in the mail? Since I had my baby I have received a ton of free formula samples and coupons in the mail. How did these companies get my address?! I am assuming someone sells them a list of new moms, either the hospital (which would be against privacy laws, wouldn't it?) or the vital records department of the local health department when the birth certificates are filed. Does anyone know?
Live in Arizona and need affordable health care for my baby!? Just wondering if anyone had any ideas for affordable health insurance for infants. I applied for KidsCare through the state but was denied. I applied for Medicaid and was denied. I don't know where to turn but can't pay $300 a month for insurance.! HELP!
Is there such a thing as infant formula that is easy to digest? My baby is almost 4 months old. I've been breastfeeding her, but I would like to supplement with another kind of milk as it is awkward to feed her like this in public and I have some health problems that make it difficult to breastfeed all the time. But I am concerned about her having a hard time digesting baby formula. Is there one that is better than the others? How is the Organics brand?

What are the stats regarding infant circumcision in the US and world? Where I live (in a small town in the South) it seems everyone does it. I am pregnant with a baby boy and my husband & I think its unnecessary. Also my husband isn't circumcised and he never had any problems (socially or health wise) I hear in many places like Europe and even in the US it isn't being done anymore. Is that true? Where can i find stats?? Thanks!
How do I get my husband to understand we need a larger grocery budget? I am a stay at home mom with 5 children, one in diapers and eating infant formula and baby food. My husband thinks that $200-$300 per month is more than enough to supply the entire family with food, baby items, clothes, health & beauty items, household cleaners & other items. I have showed him statistics on what average households spend, I have showed him grocery receipts even with my coupons, nothing works. I really need a specific budget and to know a certain time each month when I will get the money so that I can plan on what to spend depending on sale ads. Right now I have to beg him for money when we run out of things, and then I'm just buying things when they are not even on sale because I have to have them right away. He believes that the man is the head of the household, and a woman should not have any say in the finances. I understand that I don't work, and I have even asked to get a night job, but he wants me here to take care of the kids. Any help??
Whats the REAL Point of The Infant Cereals?? Whats the real deal on the Infant Rice, Rice with Fruits, and Oatmeal Cereals? Why do our babies need them? & Why do we use this as their first foods? Ive read because its a way for them to get use to the texture and swooshing the food around in their mouths, and use to swallowing Solids....Without the Allergies of starting them on the Actual Baby Foods.. Well, I'm just wondering what is this doing for our babies health wise?? My Son is on the Rice Cereal right now, he HATES the Oatmeal kind it gives him Tummy ache and we've tried it Several times in a 2week span. So, Im just thinking of leaving the cereals behind and in another week start him on Actual Baby Food Veggies...Hes 5Months and 10days would this be ok?? I feel like he will be getting more out of Veggies then the paste I'm feeding him now.... I feel like our Dr's. Tell us to because thats what they've been taught but, are these cereals really necessary..?.. Any thoughts, advice, or Suggestions on this? ALL are welcome! =)
Is the lower World Health Organization ranking for US infant mortality really accurate? I do question the completeness of that. There are still a percentage of people in the US that have morals, in that abortion is murder of a human being. So, despite full medical knowledge that their child will probably die very early, they still opt to give that life what was portioned to him/her. Other countries rank higher then ours, but look at them. Abortion as a rule of thumb is not given a second thought. If the Dr. says a baby has Spina bifida, the other less moral industrialized countries abort the baby and therefore it does not count in the total.
Are you aware of the dangers of using soy-based infant formula milk? The Department of Health warns against routine use of soy-based infant formulas because of the high content of phytoestrogens - compounds that mimic the action of the female hormone oestrogen. It is feared this could pose a risk to the long-term reproductive health of infants boys/girls i.e severe problems such as abnormal physical development, early puberty, conception, pregnancy, and cancers. This has been known for several years though not wide public knowledge - infact some GPs still recommend soya as a suitable replacement for a child with milk allergy/intolerance! Babies are usually allergic to both kinds of milk. Hi JAM123, It was really an awareness campaign for parents as the health system seem to be hiding research under the carpet which effects our chidren. lol.
Infant insurance? I am pregnant an I need to know about infant health insurance. I have insurance for myself but it WILL NOT cover my baby. I'm due in October and I am wondering what do I do, when the baby comes out and the procedures they do how do i get them covered?
Does hypoallergenic formulas have chemicals that making my baby drowsy? Hi! I just want to ask about hypoallergenic infant formula. My baby is 2 month old and he is taking Nestle NAN HA1 Hypoallergenic. Everytime he drinks the formula he always become "sleepy" and sometimes poops at the same time while drinking. Is this normal?? After that, I switched to a NAN formula that is not hypoallergenic and he can't seem to move his bowel and he is not sleepy after finishing his bottle. He also cries a lot. My question is, Is there a chemical in hypoallergenic formula that is making my baby drowsy or sleepy? Is there also MSG in hypoallergenic formula? And is it safe for infants to drink hypoallergenic formula even though it is not yet confirmed if the baby have milk protein allergy or milk allergy. I really don't want to do any harm to my baby's health. Please help. Thank you. plus the smell of his poop is so foul and awful. Is this normal for hypoallergenic formula users?
People point to the high US Infant mortality rate as a indicator of our failure in health? But is that really accurate? "The preterm birth rate in the USA is especially high: 12.7% of all babies are born early, according to the March of Dimes. That rate has increased 36% in the past 25 years, partly because of an increase in elective cesarean section, an increase in older mothers and the growing use of assisted reproduction, which increases the risk of twins, triples and higher-order multiple births, the report says." http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-10-04-premature-deaths_N.htm?csp=24&RM_Exclude=Juno Why do you think we have such a high infant mortality rate? And do you think technology has to bear some of the burden? Or do you think it's simply that we have cruddy medical care?
Does Islam/Hindu promote baby tossing as a means of providing good health and prosperity? NEW DELHI (AP) — Rights activists lashed out Friday at local officials who allowed hundreds of infants to be dropped from the roof of a mosque in western India in the belief that the fall — which ends when the babies are caught in a bedsheet — would ensure good health and prosperity for their families. The ritual at the Baba Umer Durga, a Muslim shrine, is believed to have been followed for nearly 700 years, and each year hundreds of people, both Hindus and Muslims, take part in the ritual. Local officials told television news stations there had been no reports of injuries. The infants, mostly under two years old, were dangled Thursday from the roof of the shrine near Sholapur, about 280 miles south of Mumbai, before being dropped about 50 feet onto a bedsheet held aloft by parents and other believers. Television channels showed the babies screaming as they were shaken in the air before being dropped.
health insurance for a baby? what insurance would be the most economic for my infant? i tried applying for the Oregon health plan for my baby but they denied it to my daughter because of my parents income. any suggestion on an insurance?
Is there really a major difference in Breastfed babies and bottle fed babies in terms of long term health? For hundreds of years women had no option but to breastfeed their babies because there was no formula. So does that mean that babies were meant to only be breastfed? And with formula becoming available in the last few decades if it is second choice in feeding why does it appear to be little difference in breast & bottle fed infants. I know everyone who breast feeds says their kids are healthy and smart etc, and so do the formula feeding moms. Heck I was formula fed and I am healthy and smart. We know what scientists say but does it really make a difference? If breastfeeding the the best way to go, why do formula fed babies turn out fine? I'm just asking out of curiosity. I thank you all for your insight so far. Most of you all have provided alot of information beyond just the typical "breast is best". I really like what NOVA147 & Babypocket basically said about giving your baby what is just "adequate nutrition" or giving them "superior nutrition". That breaks it down to where anyone can understand the difference. Formula feeding may be enough for them to get basics to grow, live, etc. but Breastfeeding gives them an edge. Like the public school, private school example. Thanks, I still welcome more comments though!!
Why do people consider it ok to abort their unborn baby? I know this is a very touchy subject but it is one that I feel to strongly about to stay quiet. Please please read.. It is not just for religious reasons that I am against it, but also for ethical reasons: a.)While women indeed have rights to control her body, that right has limits (like all rights). b.)Biologically, the fetus is not part of her body. a.)No child should ever feel unwanted. b.)In my country (USA) thousands of married couples would love to adopt a new-born infant. a.)There should be opposition to the conditions that lead to abortion, not to the baby. b.)Discrimination to women in the work force, poverty, lack of adequate health care and child care. *In order to take a stand against abortion, we must take a stand against the conditions that lead into it. However, do you remember a time you wanted to stand up for the voiceless? Like the poor, or discriminated people. Well who is more voiceless than a fetus? Source(s): I am definately pro-life. I might not of been here today if my mom had an abortion, and beautiful people like Bono or Martin Luther King Jr. could have been aborted. When a fetus is terminated, (as hard as it is to realize, it is very sad) we risk someone who could of made a beautiful impact in this world, and someone who could help lead this world more into one of peace and tolerance.
Iguana and infant - can we keep her (outside?)? Hi. My husband and I have a year old red iguana and we are exspecting a baby within the next four months. Everything I read is that they are not good to have around children expecially infants because of the salmenella. I keep reading all these horrible things and we obviously will put out babies health first, and if need be find a GOOD home for her (the iguana). My question is, because my husband and I have both grown attached to our iggy if there is any way we can keep her that will not physically effect our baby. We take good care of her and we have read up and down how to take care of an iguana and know there is a lot that goes into it. One thing I couldn't find though was if it is safe to keep them outside. I know to take them out during the day, but I was thinking that maybe we will be able to keep her and not have to worry about infection in the house if we can keep her outside. Is there any way we can hook something up so she can stay out there? Maybe put a humitifier or something out there when it gets a little colder or a place for her to go into? We live in Alabama so it's nice hot and humid here, but sometimes at night it gets colder and obviously winter is cold. Any suggestions would be nice. If this sounds like a wacked out plan and we should give her away, then can I have any suggestions on how to make sure she will be taken to a home that they will properly take care of her. Thanks for your suggestions and help! p.s. I should also mention there isn't a place inside we can put her that the baby wont have access to. ty again.
Illegal immigrants bankrupting local health care? Letter in a California newspaper. I work in a local hospital. When gathering statistics for a report recently, I collected information from our maternal infant floor for three random days. During that time, 67 babies were born. All but three were born to mothers with Latino surnames. Of the 65 mothers, 46 were listed as single — not married. With the exception of three mothers, every single one of those mothers were being paid for by MediCal. In other words, they were on public assistance. Each of those babies born will attend public schools. Each of those babies will also be on public health insurance. It is unusual to hear English spoken in my hospital. Our hospital provides health care to anyone who shows up at the door. Those people rarely have insurance and because of this we have been in danger of closing our doors for decades. Much, if not most, of our financial problems are due to illegal immigrants.
Does anyone know which infant formulas are available by prescription? I have heard that there are some prescription formulas that insurance will cover and I'm curious what they are (and my insurance covers EVERYTHING). And, before people start attacking me about being selfish for not breastfeeding, please know that my decision is not selfish, but based on my own health and medications I will be taking after pregnancy that I would prefer not to pass onto my baby. So, please anyone who wants to pass judgement need not answer... just people with answers. Thank you! :)
My 3 year old was a chubby baby. Now he's very skinny...Is this normal? I know "normal" is a relative term when it comes to babies and children. But he was so chubby (something most people associate with good health in infants). And now he's SO skinny. All my family members and friends are constantly making comments about "how thin he's gotten". It's starting to make me worry that something is wrong with him, because he has lost so much of his body fat. Has anyone else experienced this with their children?
Can you give a baby 3 months water? Hi All, My friend and i have had some conflicting advise regarding water to an infant. I was told not to give water because it is already in the formula/breastmilk. I was told to dilute the formula a little meaning an extra 5mls if baby is a little constipated but only for that reason. She was told to give water when it is hot, which i don't agree with and my maternal health nurse doesn't agree either. Water doesn't provide the nutrients. What has everyone else been told?
What are some jobs that deal with babies? Can someone give me any jobs in the health category that you deal with infants or babies? Like a NICU Nurse, but what are some more jobs like that, that make a decent amount of money? HEALTH please! =]
can any 1 tell me a good antibacterial detergent? have lot of roaches in my house n they mess every where even in clothes(dirty) of my infant baby i m very concern about my baby health i m so confused , my question is that can any 1 tell me a good n ANTIBECTERIAL detergent 4 my baby colthes , i ll be thankfull to u alll
Anyone had an baby with narcotic withdrawls? I'm 36 wks and on narcotic painkillers? please read!? Hey there. Just wondering whether any moms who were on narcotic painkillers during the last weeks of their pregnancy had infants with respiritory issues or infants who suffered from narcotic withdrawls? I'm 36 weeks preggo and have a slipped disc in my back - my doctor doesn't want to induce me this early, so he put me on TWO narcotic painkillers - Oxycontin (taken twice a day), and Percocet (taken every 4 hours). Anyone had any experiences with this? If your infant did have withdrawls, how did they treat them? Do you have to do anything special? Did your infant have respiratory issues? Thanks a bunch! Also, don't you think it'd be safer for the baby's health and for mine to just induce me earlier rather than pump us both full of narcotics? Thanks I think they just want me to be able to make it to 37 or 38 weeks.... I can understand that... but still... know what I mean? I've read some pretty alarming stuff on the fda website about side effects of both the oxycontin (which is considered the most powerful pain narcotic on the market), and about percocet as well - that it can pass through the placenta to the baby and cause respiratory suppression and narcotic withdrawls after birth for the infant. I also don't like the way it makes me feel - veeeeeeeeeery loopy - like I just drank a 6 pack and that's not a good thing when I'm taking care of my 2 year old daughter all day long - and we live 20 minutes from the nearest town so there are times that I do need to go into town to get the mail, pick up a gallon of milk, groceries, ect, ect, ect. Ergh. Thanks everyone! Yeah, I was induced 3 weeks early with my first daughter - had the saaaaaaaaaaame problem I'm having now, except that when it happened I was farther along (37 weeks) so instead of messing around with all of this junk, they just induced me. She was really good sized too - 7 1/2 lbs and 22 inches - not bad for 3 weeks early! lol!
plz helpppppppp? i have lot of roaches in my house n they mess every where even in clothes(dirty) of my infant baby i m very concern about my baby health i m so confused , my question is that can any 1 tell me a good n ANTIBECTERIAL detergent 4 my baby colthes , i ll be thankfull to u alll
How could anyone actually complain that ? How could anyone actually complain that the McCain's adopted a deathly ill Black Infant and nursed the Infant back to Health ? Are some people actually saying: " How Dare you adopt that Baby and save that Babys' Life " ? " How Dare you adopt that Baby and deny it the opportunity to grow up as a poverty-stricken orphan in India " ? " How Dare you adopt that Baby and subject it to a lifetime of private schooling, etc. " ? Obamabot : Read the question slowly the question concerns " private schooling " not " public schooling " inthe : You are 100 % Wrong. This " little kid " is 18 years old.
I think the horror stories about parents murdering their babies should go elsewhere? seriously like society and culture or current events. I thought newborn section was for ppl with questions about their infants' development health feeding habits etc? not stories about what grueling parents do to their babies? any1 agree? lol masons mama that is the exact question I was referring to actually. mary z I think you missed the point.
Why would anybody have their new-born baby or child vaccinated????? By Dr. Aisha Hamdan “Immunizations the best thing to protect your child from a variety of diseases.” You hear this from your doctor from the media, from the brochures in the clinic, from your friends. But, did you ever stop to think twice about what it all means? Did you ever look deeper into the issue and the other side of the story? Well let’s read on….. Your child is just born and one of the first things you do is call the clinic to schedule an appointment for your first “well-baby” visit. During the visit, after about 1 or 2 months, you can expect your baby to be weighed, measured, and put through excruciating pain from several shots in the leg. Your baby has just received his first immunization (or vaccination) shots and you allow it to happen without even questioning. It is just assumed that your pediatrician has your best interests in mind and that immunizations are the best thing to protect your child from a variety of diseases. You hear this from your doctor, from the media, from the brochures in the clinic, from your friends. You figure that the pain your baby has just gone through is worth the protection that he receives. But, did you ever stop to think twice about what it all means? Did you ever look deeper into the issue and read the other side of the story? (The one that is not provided by your doctor). Did you know, for example, that immunizations may cause serious side effects in children, even as serious as death? Did you know that immunizations actually weaken the immune system and make it work less effectively and efficiently? Were you aware that immunizations contain harmful chemicals that are not indigenous to the body? Did you know that your child might still contract a disease even if he or she has been immunized against? If you have a new baby, a young child or are considering having children in the future, these are concerns that you want to investigate and learn more about. Many parents have, and they have decided NOT to immunise their children. Let us look into this matter more closely and also consider it form an Islamic perspective. The health and well being of your child may be at stake. Myths and Realities Myth 1. “Vaccines are effective at protecting people from diseases” Reality: Many studies in the medical literature have documented vaccine failure. Measles, mumps, small pox, polio and Hib outbreaks have all occurred in vaccinated populations. In 1989, for example measles outbreaks occurred in schools with vaccination levels greater than 98% (Centres for Disease Control). The World Health Organization has actually found that a person who is vaccinated for measles has a 15 times greater likelihood of contracting the disease than a person who is not. The effectiveness of the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine has been reported to be around 50%. In an incident in Kansas in 1986, 90% of pertussis cases were found to have been vaccinated. In another study of rubella, 36% of adolescent females who had been vaccinated against the disease lacked evidence of immunity by blood tests. Following the introduction of the diphtheria vaccine in various countries, incidents of the disease actually increased phenomenally. In France, there was a 30% increase; in Hungary, a 55% increase; and in Geneva, Switzerland, there was a tripling of the disease. All of this occurring after the introduction of mass compulsory vaccinations in those countries. In Australia, where vaccinations are not mandatory and only about ½ of the population receives them, the rates of illness are the same for both the vaccinated and non-vaccinated groups. What all of these facts point to (and there are many more related to this) is that vaccinations are not as effective as people are made to believe. A person who has been vaccinated has no guarantee that he will not contract the disease and chances are that if he does, it will be at a later age when the consequences are much more serious. The truth of the matter is that when immunity to disease is acquired naturally (such as through breastfeeding or through contact at a young age), the possibility of re-infection is only 3.2%. If the “immunity” comes from the artificial means of vaccinations, the chance of re-infection is 80%. In any epidemic, only a small percentage of the population actually contracts the disease, many of them being naturally immune. If a person who has been vaccinated does not contract the disease, this proves nothing. Chances are that even without the vaccination, he or she would not have gotten the disease any way. Myth 2: “Vaccines are the main reason for declines in disease rates” Reality: Most declines in diseases occurred before the introduction of mass immunizations. Infectious disease deaths in the United States and England declined an average of 80% prior to vaccinations. The British Association for the Advancement of Science found that childhood diseases decreased by 90% between 1850 and 1940, long before mandatory vaccination programs. European countries that refused immunizations for small pox and polio saw these epidemics end along with countries that had mandated them. Other infectious diseases continued to decline even in the absence of vaccines for them. This included declines in tuberculosis, chicken pox, scarlet fever, typhus, typhoid and plague. So what, you may ask, were the reasons for the decrease in diseases at this point in time. Research has found that improved sanitation and hygienic practices; along with improvements in diet and other health factors were the main contributing factors in eradication many diseases. A recent report by the World Health Organization supported this fact. The report found that “disease and mortality rates in third world countries have no direct correlation with immunization procedures or medical treatment, but are closely related to the standard of diet and hygiene.” What this means is that it is not as important to be immunized as it is to eat healthily and maintain personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness. Myth 3: “Vaccines are completely safe for children.” Reality: Vaccines are much more dangerous than we are even aware of. This is information that you will probably not receive from your doctor and if you child does have a reaction, it is unlikely that your doctor will report it. In 1986, the United States Congress created The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, which acknowledges the reality of vaccine-caused injuries and death. This law requires doctors to provide parents with information about the benefits and risks of childhood vaccines prior to vaccination and also requires doctors to report vaccine reactions to federal health officials. The Food and Drug Administration, which monitors this (along with the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention), acknowledged that 90% of doctors do not report vaccine reactions as required by law. More than 12,000 adverse reactions to vaccines are reported each year. If the rate of under-reporting is considered, this number should be closer to 120,000. Vaccine-related deaths occurring each year may be over 1000. The compensation portion of the Vaccine Injury Act awards up to $250,000 if a child dies from a vaccination or millions in dollars to cover lifelong medical bills, pain and suffering in the case of a brain-damaged child. By 1997, more than $802 million had been awarded for hundreds of injuries and deaths (5000 cases, 700 of which were deaths). Thousands of cases are still pending and the estimated future liability for the government exceeds $1.7 billion. A portion of the money that parents pay for vaccinations goes to this congressional fund, which basically means that you are paying insurance each time your child is vaccinated. In many cases, vaccinations are more serious than the diseases they are meant to protect a person from. The pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is probably the most dangerous. The chances of suffering a serious adverse reaction to DPT vaccines are 1 in 1750, while the chances of dying from pertussis each year are 1 in several million. A study at UCLA found that 1 in 13 children had persistent high pitched crying after the DPT shot. One in 700 had convulsions or shock, which may cause learning disabilities or brain damage. Vaccinations, in general, have been linked to disorders of the blood, brain, skin, and nervous system. This includes encephalitis (central nervous system disorder, brain damage), paralysis, nerve inflammation, diseases of the lymph glands, skin disorders, allergies, arthritis, cancer. National and International studies have shown a link between vaccinations and SIDS (sudden Infant Death Syndrome). One study found that the peak incidence of SIDS occurred at the ages of 2 and 4 months, the time when the first routine vaccinations are given. Another study concluded that ½ of SIDS cases (2500 of 5000) are related to vaccinations. In the mid-70’s, when Japan raised their vaccinations age from 2 months to 2 years, the incidence of SIDS dropped dramatically. The disturbing fact in the United State is that coroners refuse to check the vaccination state of SIDS victims, which makes it difficult to prove many cases. Other important truths to consider include the fact that vaccinations actually weaken the immune system rather than strengthen it. They only focus on one aspect of the immune system, which interferes with the body’s ability to initiate a “generalized response”. Only that one particular aspect of the system will function. What this means is that the vaccinations produce immune suppression which contributes to an increased susceptibility to other diseases and infections. This may explain why the rate of childhood illness has actually increased rather than decreased in this society. Vaccinations also contain additional chemicals such as formaldehyde, mercury (thimerosal), and aluminum phosphate, which are extremely toxic substances that can lead to hazardous effects. Microscopic doses may lead to cancer, neurological damage, and even death. Several of these may accumulate in the body such that the lethality increases as the number of vaccine increase. And the story continues. This is only the tip of the iceberg and there is a larger amount of information available for those who wish to learn more (see websites listed below). It is important that parents become educated and knowledgeable about immunizations so that they can make an informed choice rather than be manipulated by the medical establishment. Does anyone use apple-flavored Baby's Bliss Gripe Water? Federal health authorities warned parents Thursday not to give babies a liquid herbal supplement marketed as a remedy for colic and teething pain because several bottles tested positive for a parasite that may have a sickened a 6-week-old infant in Minnesota. Lab tests conducted by the Food and Drug Administration confirmed the presence of Cryptosporidium, a parasite that can cause diarrhea and intestinal infections, in unopened bottles of apple-flavored Baby's Bliss Gripe Water, according to the FDA. The supplement's distributor, MOM Enterprises of San Rafael, Calif., said it had recalled about 17,600 bottles of the product that were being sold through the Internet and at retail stores nationwide. The Minnesota baby so far is the only person with a reported illness possibly linked to the product, which is sold in 4-ounce bottles with the code 26952V and has an expiration date of October 2008. The FDA said that people infected with Cryptosporidium generally display symptoms within two to 10 days. The most common symptom is diarrhea, and other symptoms include dehydration, weight loss, stomach cramps or pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. Health officials advised consumers to discard any of the product they have and to consult a pediatrician if it was consumed by a child who seems sick. MOM Enterprises is offering full refunds. Consumers can call 877-457-4955 for more information. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070921/ap_on_he_me/colic_remedy_recall;_ylt=AsXI7SlrOwopMiG5x0m1QlvgcbYF

Do liberals really believe those bogus health care scare stories and that bogus 47 million figure? I mean really. Time to get educated. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/04/business/04view.html?ex=1351832400&en=f118898ca72c3199&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss Infant Mortality Rates: "The health system in the United States gives low birth-weight babies slightly better survival chances than does Canada’s, but the more pronounced difference is the frequency of these cases. In the United States, 7.5 percent of babies are born weighing less than 2,500 grams (about 5.5 pounds), compared with 5.7 percent in Canada. In both nations, these infants have more than 10 times the mortality rate of larger babies. Low birth weights are in turn correlated with teenage motherhood." 47 Million?? "Of course, millions of Americans have trouble getting health insurance. But they number far less than 47 million, and they make up only a few percent of the population of 300 million. Any reform should carefully focus on this group to avoid disrupting the vast majority for whom the system is working." If you answer by saying "I thought cons didn't believe the NYT", it will brand you as a child.
