I usually boil a drumstick, lentils, squash, carrots, a potato and sometimes I add a sweet potato and rice. I blend it and feed it to her. making homemade food for my dog? I have a white maltese that is about 6 pounds full grown. She's turning 3 in July. She's very healthy so far. No plague build up on her teeth, no vital organs malfunctioning, she's very happy and active, and poops regularly :D but my dog is just so spoiled in every way including her choice of foods. She is a very finicky eater and doesn't eat most of the things I give her unless it's something she likes. Ever since we brought her home, she won't eat dog food. I've tried dry food, canned food... (probably every single one on the shelf) and I finally gave up and tried different human foods. She really likes raw veggies.. (like cabbage, carrots, and celery) and she LOVES fruit (apple, melon, and strawberries are her favorite) So I always give her veggies when she's hungry, and although she doesn't really like meat and tries not to eat it, I try my best to feed her some by just boiling beef or chicken in water and dicing them up. She also won't eat her food if they are not diced up and are an "edible size" for her mouth. If I just give her a big chunk, she doesn't eat any 99% of the time. So everytime I give her something, I have to individually chop the veggies, cut to pieces, and pull the meat. I don't give her any food with artificial ingredients, or dog treats that look like junk food. These couple of days, my baby has been puking and sleeping all day, so I took her to the doctor and he suggested I don't buy dog food and cook for my dog instead since she's so picky about her food. But he also suggested I don't just give her whatever she wants and go on a strict meal plan to try to get all the nutrients proper for the dog. He said if I went ahead and looked for some online, I would find plenty.... I've found some, but I really don't know what to do with it. My dog doesn't like to eat most of the ingredients in the food recipes I found. 1. Is it okay for my dog to be liking veggies over meat? (My first doctor said it was fine- that her dog was a vegetarian, but my second doctor said it was not okay- dogs aren't designed to only eat veggies by nature) 2. Maybe I'm relying too much on human taste, but boiling up meat just smells nasty :D I wanted to at least put some salt or soy sauce to give it a flavor, but I just felt that was unhealthy... Is it unhealthy? 3. Where can I find a really good source for homemade dog food? (Any good website recommendation, or a good book recommendation, or a personal recipe all sounds great) 4. Any tips on how to make my dog a less finicky eater? *I've tried putting the food bowl down only on a certain time of day, not giving her anything until she's hungry, and rewarding her with treats after she's eaten something she doesn't like. Nothing works... My dog looks like she just doesn't have a big thing on appetite. She's never hungry, and she's never nagging for food or snack.
Slightly chunky baby food recipes? My son is 11 months old and still prefers pureed baby food. He also eats a bit of finger foods but not enough to get by on just yet. I am looking at increasing the texture of his pureed baby food however, when I buy the 8 month plus baby food jars, he picks out the chunks and spits them out. I don't think it is always the texture, but sometimes the spice as he will eat creamed corn and brown beans mushed up. I am hoping to make some homemade baby food that is not completely pureed but not too chunky. Does anybody have recipes to share or can recommend a book that would be useful? Thanks in advance.

any advice or recipes for making homemade baby food? my son is four months still nursing- wondering when i should start baby cereal and how to get started
Question about introducing solids, making your own baby food, and introducing foods other than ceral first? My daughter is 3 months old right now. I'm trying to decide if I should introduce food to her at 4 or 6 months. My pediatrician recommended 4 months, but a lot of the research I've read shows its best to wait until 6 months. Which did you do? Also, I recently learned that cereal is a poor choice for a first food due to its lack of nutruitional content. The body converts it to sugar really fast. Did you introduce a food other than cereal first? If so, what? Its said that meat would be a healthier first food choice, but that seems odd to me. Has anyone introduced meat early? How'd you go about it? If you make your own baby food, what kind of foods do you prepare? How frequently do you feed a young child these foods and in what amounts? Any advice from mom's who prefer a more natural approach? I find "attachment style" parents share a lot of the same ideas as I ... input is helpful! http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/babys-first-foods.html Don't know if this is helpful info to have or not but my daughter is unfortunately not breast-fed. I have a brain pressure problem (intracranial hypertension or pseudo-tumor cerebi) and have to take a brain dierutic that DEFINITELY passes through breast milk and is harmful. My daughter is lactose intolerant, so she uses a Lacto-Free formula. I feed her on demand rather than a schedule.. though I find, she normally creates her own sort of schedule.
How do i make good tasting homemade baby food? I've made quite a few different things, but my baby doesnt really like it the way he likes jar foods (Gerbers, etc). I tried boiling carrots til they were soft, putting them in the blender with a little of the water i had boiled them in, and they putting them in ice trays and freezing them up until i use them (the way my mom taught me to do), but he doesnt like it. (I used regular carrots.. they are kind of bitter.. is there another type of carrot i should use?) I tried doing the same with sweet potatoes (which arent that sweet), peas, green beans, and a few other things with not much luck. Any suggestions? or baby food recipes? please.. i dont want to keep buying the store bought baby food but right now it seems like i have too cause my baby wont eat anything im making so far. Thanks in advance!
What do you think of my baby food site? I just launched my homemade baby food recipes webite.www.suitfood.com Any ideas or opinions which will help to improve it? Thanks
Can I Make Homemade Baby Food? I have been researching what to feed our tiny one when he or she is born. I think I could make that gloop in the jars better than the large companies. Plus that way I can make sure of what ingredients are used. The thing is I don't really know what the gloop is. I presume a large part is mashed fruit and vegetables but is there anything I definately shouldn't put in it. Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for homemade baby food?
What are some yummy homemade recipes for a 7-8 month old baby? I dont want my little man getting bored with the homemade foods i am giving him. He has oats with fruits or sometimes just fruits for breakfast; mixed vegies with mixed baby cereal or baby custard with fruits for lunch; mixed vegies with mixed cereal for dinner. What else can i do for him? All the jarred baby food sound so yummy but i want to stick to homemade foods for him.
Is there such a thing as Homemade Peach Baby food? (recipe needed)? If so, can you get me the recipe or tell me where/what it is.
What is it about baby food recipe sites - esp. wholesomebabyfood.com? My SIL asked me about a good baby food recipe site and I mentioned wholesomebabyfood.com. She said that she read on the answers here that someone keeps saying it us full of wives' tales and weird stuff that's not true or based on evidence. My pediatrician pointed me to it so I'm wondering about the wives' tales etc. One of the things I really liked is it points to medical sources and also has a great page on why to not start solids early. SIL will be watching this for replies! I'd hate to steer her wrong :-) Also, what do people think of homemade-baby-food-recipes.com? I like that one too! Maybe SIL would like that one? Ooh Elizabeth, thanks for mentioning the cookbook. I forgot to ask about cookbooks! I have a few that I use too. SIL is sometimes more of a "book" person whereas I can read the web or read the book, it doesn't matter to me. Stuck Up - like the article a lot! Very good to show SIL too. I think the charts are good and also like the baby food site says cereal is not necessary and to try avocado or something else. It's funny both site and article mention spices and we are a spicy family :-) My little ones sure had their fill through the BM

What do I need to make homemade baby food? If I want to make homemade baby food, what utensils will I need? Do you have any recipe ideas for all of the stages or any helpful links? I appreciate your help.
what kind of homemade food are you feeding your 10-month old? my daughter is 10 months old and i've been feeding her mostly pureed fruits/veggies/meat since she was 6 months old. Lately I've been trying to make food with more texture for her, like tiny pasta stars mixed with butternut squash or well-cooked lentils mashed up a bit. I just wanted to get some recipe suggestions from moms who make their baby's food at 10 months. i tried looking at baby recipe books but most seem to be too advanced for my daughter who only has 2 teeth? maybe i'm not giving her (or her 2 teeth) enough credit. i've also noticed that a lot of more advanced baby food recipes i'm finding use butter and stuff like that which i'm trying to avoid... Anyways, i'd love to know what kind of chunkier/textured food you're making! :) Thanks! (and before anyone feels like scolding me... YES, i am still nursing her and she gets the majority of her nutrition from breastmilk.)
My baby prefers jarred food to homemade food.? I don't understand this. I was so excited when my daughter turned 6 months because I could start preparing her homemade food. It turns out that she rejects a lot of the food I make but will eat the same food (e.g., pureed sweet potato) when it comes from a jar. I am not a bad cook and the recipes I make are so simple that I can't screw them up (e.g., steam or bake, then puree in a food processor). Has anyone experienced this? And I don't think it's because the jarred food has sugar because I am very careful and only buy organic baby food and always read the ingredient list to make sure there is no added sugar or salt. Any suggestions on what I should do?
home made dog food recipes? looking for good home made dog food recipes. My dogs are seniors and having a hard time chewing their food.we switched to bill jac, which are easy to crumble.i am still going to feed them that, but i want to cut back on commercial dog food and stick with home made dog food (i make my own baby food and families meals, i enjoy cooking, not tedious at all) I eventually want to make homemade dog food for a new puppy too (once our senior citizens cross over the rainbow bridge) They hate fruits and veggies, so if it is included, it will have to be his well (a dog i used to have LOVED fruits and veggies..that would be her training snack and treats!) thanks:)
Homemade baby food question? I make all my son's baby food. I found some recipes for beef that I like, however, I was told that for beef, unlike other meats you can't refreeze it after making the dinners. I haven't actually found anything saying that but I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about that.. for example, can you make a beef casserole, blend it and then freeze it in portions? Thanks!
Baby food recipes. 9 months old and needs variety,? My son is 9 months old and loves his table food. I am looking for recipes of food that is safe for my son to eat, as well as my partner and I. I want to add some variety into his diet, other than conventional baby food jars. I am sick of paying obscene amounts on crap. Now that he is eating table food, I want to try and give him mostly what we are eating. Now, he has had homemade shepherds pie before, and loved this. He has also had Spaghetti Bog, and chicken stir fry. Do you have any recipes I could use to feed the entire family, that is cheap, and you can get most ingredients from the local supermarket. He cannot have strawberries as he is allergic. He has teeth and loves to chew his food. It doesn't need to be pureed, but if it is too chunky, it may have to be mashed. Thank you.

home made baby food recipes? I tried making my baby home made food for the first time and he hated it sooo much that he cried everytime he saw the spoon coming near him, lol. I mixed boiled potato's carrot and brocolli and blended til smooth. He loves the canned stuff, but homemade is soo much better for him. Anyone know any good vegie combo's that your babies loved? Would really appreciate, so would Will (my baby). Thanks

Homemade baby products-- baby food-- website links appreciated!? I am about 4 months pregnant, and am looking for a website that has recipes for homemade baby products- shampoo, diaper rash cream, moisturizer, that sort of thing. Also want a website that has recipes and tips for making your own baby food and freezing or storing it. I want to do things as naturally and simply as possible with this baby, and not rely so much on store bought products. We live rural, which makes it harder to get products in the first place. So, any TIPS,, ADVICE, or WEBSITES with the sort of info I am looking for would be appreciated! PS- I'm not totally stuck on the organic issue, but want to have this baby enjoy a natural, simple state of life, not overburdened with Huggies and Pampers and other brand name products. Thanks! http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/momstoleanon/
how do I make homemade baby food? recipes and tips would be welcome also
baby food...? does anyone have any recipes for homemade baby food?
Using butter in homemade baby food? We've had a good start at introducing solid foods to our 20-week-old daughter (who seems to relish the new flavors and gobbles up whatever we give her), and currently use only organic baby food. While the quality of the food is good, I'd still like to make my own at least part of the time in order to save on money and so that she has fresh produce. Quite a few of the recipes I've seen recommend adding a pat of butter to the puree- is this really necessary? I do understand that babies need fat to help brain development, but surely this can come from her milk feeds. Am I missing something? Also, I've seen differing advice on when to add meat to the baby's diet- some say now, others say not until 7-8 months. Any advice? Thanks very much in advance.
Opinions on Annabel Karmel's baby food books? Looking at using her books as recipe ideas for making homemade baby food. Wondering if anyone has any comments? Know of any other baby food books that you would recommend?

Does anyone have a recipe for homemade cat food? I have three cats with different nutritional needs. Moe has fatty liver disease and needs and has to have protein. China just had surgery to remove two large bladder stones and needs less or very little protein. Panzy eats everything in sight and gets so fat that I can't keep him trim. My biggest concern is them not getting enough of the right things (Taurine and essential vitamins and minerals); I am feeding them all boiled chicken mixed with Albacore tuna in water and I know it can't be good for them over the long haul. The recipe needs to be grain and flour free. Help! I want to help my babies stay alive and healthy!
What are some yummy recipes for baby foods (specifically for a 1-2 year old)? Cooking has always made me a wrack of nerves! But now more so when it comes to my children. Right now in daycare they eat homemade gerber-like foods but every time I cook for my daughter, she seems to like the gerber food better than what i prepare for her :-( I really want to cook delicious and healthy food/snacks for her. Anyone have great recipes? Or know of great websites with yummy and healthy recipes? Thank you very much! Or, does anyone recommend a baby book with recipes?

Homemade Baby Food? Whats your fave recipe to make for your baby?
making own baby food...? I have started making some homemade baby food for my 7 month old. I was wondering how you get the the fruits and stuff to not turn brown like the apples and bananas. Do you have to cook some of them first. Any good suggestions for recipes or anything?
What are some homemade foods you can prepare for your pet? I recently adopted a shih tzu puppy, and have read online that homemade foods are much better than dog food bought of the shelf. So I was wondering if you guys had any doggie recipes to share. I thanks you, and so does my baby Luna :) Oops I thanks you lol, I meant, I thanks you. Geez, i meant I thank you. lol
9-month old only wants to eat baby crackers, how can I get her to eat more types of food? My 9-month old has never really taken to solids, only a couple spoonfuls here and there and then she pushes the spoon away and won't open her mouth for more. We've tried all the baby cereals, all the fruits and veggies in the jars, home-cooked foods, finger food sized fruit, veggies, cheese, meat, etc and she only ever wants a little taste but not much more. Then we tried her on the baby crackers - mum-mums, gerber finger foods fruit puffs, toddler veggie puffs, etc - and she LOVES those! She will also eat Cheerios. How can I get her to eat a more balanced diet? Anybody know any recipes for homemade baby crackers or cookies?
Homemade Cat food? Thanks for reading my question! My cat is a sweetheart. She just had a litter of 7 kittens (two little girls and 5 adorable boys). Well, it seems like she's having a hard time producing milk. I talked to my vet and he advised me to put her on some wet cat food. Here's the few problems with that. 1. With the recalls going on lately I'm afraid to feed my baby anything bought in the store. Not only is it for her safety, but the safety of her kittens. 2. I'm not able to drive to the store to pick some up. 3. My pay check doesn't arrive until the 20th. Unfortunately I'm financially challenged right now. I barely have food for myself. All I have is eggs, milk, liver sausage (braunshweiger) , bread, and almost every veggie on earth. What do I do? Any websites or recipes you can share with me and my babies? Thanks in advance! Thanks everyone for your help! I did have dry cat food in the house... some of you thought I wasn't feeding my cat at all, I am. She's been eating the dry food and she had wet food for a while but my water heater broke and I needed to buy a new one which took my whole pay check. She's been eating wet food up until this week. Luckily my friend came through with about 14 cans of wet food for me, thank god for her. Per my vet's request we mashed up some kitten food into her wet food. It worked about 20 minutes after she ate she was feeding her kittens like normal. Thank all of you for your help, especially those of you who were not judgemental. FYI, my cat was still a young cat. We scheduled her spaying appointment a week after we got her and when we went in for the surgery they told us she was pregnant and I can NOT abort young kittens. So I was not being negligent she was pregnant when I got her and I just thought she was fat.
How do you know which are the best baby foods to start with? My son is 3 1/2 months and he will be starting solids soon. With all the recent recalls, what are the best foods out there for babies just starting out? Should I make homemade baby food and where can I get recipes for that?
What is your favorite homemade babyfood recipe.......? i am trying to expand my recipe collection for my sons meals in the next coming months. What are some of your favorite baby food recipes?
can i make homemade macaroni cheese & freeze it? I am getting food ready for having a new baby & want to make homemade food & freeze it. I make macaroni cheese with bacon on the top - can I freeze it & then cook it from frozen (how long for) or would it need to be defrosted first? Any other nutricious recipes & easy ideas for freezing dinners would be really appreciated.
Do you feed your babies meat? My son is 5 months old, and i'm so overprotective of what he eats. He has never eaten jarred baby food. I use my own homemade baby food recipes. These are a few things I feed him often(all made from scratch): Banana Puree, Apple Sauce, Strawberry Yogurt, Carrot Puree, Sweet Potato Puree, Oatmeal, Organic Brown Rice Cereal, Pea puree, Hard boiled egg whites, Etc. He is at a healthy weight, and the pediatrician says he is fine but I want to get an idea of when other parents start feeding their children meat, and other "heavier" foods. I just want to start adding foods to his diet slowly because I want him to be able to digest it well. I also would like some opinions (If you're going to be rude, don't bother to answer) on my parenting skills. Do you think i'm too overprotective? I mean, I just want my son to be healthy. I don't like the idea of feeding him jarred, processed, foods with chemicals (preservatives, etc) and I struggle to make him food many times per day. *His pediatrician says that I should start adding on "heavier" foods anywhere between 6 months-10 months depending on how much he weighs and his response to certain foods. But he says not to mix too many foods or use any oils or too much fat untill he is at least 10 months.
feeding baby "real" food...? i want to try giving my son real chicken for the first time today...how big should the pieces be??? about pea size?? or bigger or smaller?? Also what about steamed veggies...should i mash them or just cut them into little pieces??? he is 9 months and is very good at using his pincer grasp to pickup food (like toast). and can i give him cheese??? what kind??? shredded or in pieces?? does anyone know a good web site or book for homemade recipes??? i know i am asking alot...sorry :) thanks i am just wondering...is this site supposed to be a place where you can get answers to questions??? well i thought that it was....so i am here wondering why people have to be so damn rude....as a first time mom with no one else to help me i want to make sure that i do everything right...like of course i have given my baby veggies...geez i dont understand some people.

My 10 month old and food allergies! Is very allergic to milk and milk/dairy products. He has severe eczema and can't have anything with milk products or he breaks out in a horrible, severe rash that he can't stop scratching at. He was put on Alimentum and it hasn't done any good..my aunt, who is also lactose intolerant, was reading the ingredients and said that there is milk based products in the Alimentum. So I took him off of formula completely (He will be 11 months this month-Aug.) and put him on Rice milk and his skin has already started clearing up!! My question is--Does anyone have a recipe for homemade Rice milk that is more catered to babies or will any Rice milk recipe do? I have found a few good recipes but wasn't sure if babies needed added ingredients. He is also eating homemade food..meaning I buy raw fruits and veggies and cook them etc. because the baby food also has added stuff that he is allergic to. Thanks so much for all of your help!

What is your favorite homemade babyfood recipe.......? i am trying to expand my recipe collection for my sons meals in the next coming months. What are some of your favorite baby food recipes?
9yr old silky terrier won't eat dry food. Best yummilicious dry food brand. i've always known that canned food is bad for dogs cos of high sugar or sodium contents and whatnot (synthetic ingredients etc). Now, i believe she has mouthful of rotten teeth which hurts if she ate or chewed on kibbles. So, if i brought her to the vet, and unfortunately have to have all the major chewing teeth pulled, what can i feed her? Anyone has experienced a dog with no teeth, refusing to feed on dry food? What and how did you feed it? Please recommend me some gd brands that wouldn't cost me a bomb. Or any simple yet healthy homemade recipes? Background: Yuki lives with my mum, dad, brother. Mum- prefers not to have dog but my sis bought yuki before she got pregnant and moved in with in-laws thus decided to leave her in mum's care. She changes yuki's water and cleans her wastes. Not very learned nor interested in animal care. Dad- retired and diabetic adores her too but feeds her only once a day. Since he's always lethargic and weak. Brother- adores her but is very busy with work, still, he tries to find time to bathe/groom/feed her. He brushes her teeth only occasionally. Believes that bad teeth will fall out eventually on its own. No reason to spend a bomb on vet. Thinks she's simply picky with her food. All the dogs we've had prefers canned food so he doesn't think much about yuki's dental health. Me- married, just had a baby 8mths ago, stays with in-laws who're overprotective over my son. Doesn't approve of him hanging with animals now. They think he's too young, doesn't want him to have a chance to develop asthma/allergies. They think Yuki has some oral disease (cos of her bad breath) that's gotta harm my a baby somehow. Don't mind bringing yuki over after her dental check-up to care for her and feed her proper meals then hand her back to my mum's. Sweet Yuki is a very obedient, eager-to-please, easily contented, loving little silky who's getting so skinny i can feel and see her spine through her skin days back when i paid my mum a visit. She's still eating but i'm afraid not enough. Brought her to a vet to have some of her teeth pulled out before, bro thinks it's because of that so she can't chew on hard things. Reading some of the answers i believe that it's not true as some old dogs do well with dry food even without any teeth. Right? haha. BTW, She hates soaked-dry food. I feel so sorry for her. My sister's house is crowded with rowdy kids and adults who're not used to having dogs. She feels responsible for yuki's well-being but can't help it. Besides her young son has very sensitive nose and skin. A silky's hair is very fine and clingy if you know what i mean. I get bad allergies what with my sinusitis but i never cared and kept dogs since i was young. Prob is i can't have her with me now and i care for my son 24/7 at home. How can i help her and how can i help my mum/dad/bro to help her? I don't wanna be too harsh on them as they never asked to adopt the dog. They're already very resentful with my sis about having her. I cannot promise a better life for her if she's with me since my in-laws are very against it. I appreciate any helpful and constructive suggestions/advice/ideas. Thanks a lot guys!!!
Help me with new vegetarian baby foods? I have learned that preparing ahead of time is the best! Our daughter is almost 3 months old, so of course she will not be eating solids yet. However, when she does start, I want to be prepared. We have chosen to go vegetarian again and she will be as well. Does anyone know of any good recipes sites for homemade vegetarian baby food? We will never buy store bought and it must be 100% Organic. Any ideas or tips or sites? Thanks Oh and, FYI: I am not looking for others to force meat upon our family. My entire family has been raised Vegetarian and our Pediatrician has said this was fine, there are alternatives. Thank you for your input, but it will not be necessary. If my daughter gets sick...we will know, and she surely will never be removed from our home. We are a wonderful Christian family who can provide more for our children than most people can. We also help other families and do missionary work. The Lord is with us as He is with you. God bless. Thank you for those with kind answers. I feel the individuals who say that we must eat meat to live are usually (not always) the unhealthy and misinformed people whom we read their obituaries in the mornings. It is a lifestyle choice and one we feel comfortable with. Thank you again.
Making A Homemade Party Tray For Thanksgiving. 10 Ideas For What To Include? Tomatoes, celery sticks and baby carrots are what I have on the menu now; platter has 10 spaces. I'm interested in keeping the platter pretty simple with food items that everyone will like. Plus, ideas for a good dip that will complement ALL the food--anyone got a good homemade recipe for one? Ranch is what I have in mind as it's pretty standard, but honestly I can't think of any other that would go good with all the food choices. Thank you! Oh I can't believe I forgot the obvious like cheese and cucumbers! This is making me way too hungry, and eager to get it started. Thanks for the reminder that not all items need to be dipped. That has definitely expanded the choices.
What are some good ideas for homemade Christmas presents? This year we are a little tight on money, because we are having our baby sometime around Christmas (He's due December 21st!) can I make my own rice cereal for my baby using brown rice? Hello! I want to feed my baby homemade baby food when he is ready for solids, I have discussed it with my doctor at his last check up and he thinks it would be a great idea, especially if I use organic vegies and fruits for him but I forgot to ask about his cereal. I know how to make regular rice cereal, you just grind rice and boil it with water enough to make it the right consistency but I was wondering if you could use brown rice since it is healthier? Does anyone know or know of any good websites with babyfood tips and recipes? Thanks!! lol, thanks L...I didnt know you could buy already made brown rice cereal for babies, I will keep my eye out for them!
Starting my son on solids? My son is 5 months old and breastfed, I will be starting him on solids when he turns 6 months old.. I am reading the book First Meals by Annabel Karmel, which has great tips and recipes for homemade baby foods.. my question is, what did you start your baby on first, how many times a day, and then when did you begin incorporating additional baby foods after you started your baby? Thank you!
