My brother's dog got parvo 2 weeks ago he came in my house with out it to get some medicine then the dog died the next day so my husband gave him a ride to the local animal shelter with the dog but know I got a good deal on a toy maltese and we are planning to bring it home should I not bring him cause of the parvo infection or is there any hope that my new baby won't get infected? How about if I should give her the vaccines first and give it parvo medicine before bringing her home? Please help if anyone has experience on this.

Does anyone have a male toy maltese in Nyc? I have a female maltese and i was trying to see if anyone would want to mate their male maltese with my female. I had my pekingnese for 12 years. She never wanted to mate with anyone and she got cancer. I dont want that to happen for my fluffy. My toy maltese has a bent tail. It doesn't seem to hurt him, but I was wondering if it's unhealthy for him. My maltese has had a bent tail since we got him. How long does hypoglycemia last in maltese puppies, any toy puppies? HELP!? I recently saved a female Maltese puppy. She is nearly 2 pounds, and was born on May 10th of this year. She is under close watch by myself and my family, her vet is aware and we visit there often. She is on nutri-cal and antibiotics (she also has a cold and stool was tested negative). I am aware of hypoglycemic conditions and how to take proper care of her. I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has gone though this or is currently going through this like myself. It's very upsetting. How long does this last with proper care? She will not eat anything and I mean NOTHING AT ALL. She has to be force fed with a syringe filled with baby food, wet food, etc. She does drink regular water and sugar water. Please, does anyone have any advice or support they can offer. Thank you!

How to train a puppy not to bark at every single sound? I have a baby toy female Maltese and a baby female Pomerainian who are very good dogs except for one thing, they bark at every single sound!!! They would bark at the drop of a dime for crying out loud. It's good that they are looking out for us, and barking when they hear strange sounds, but this goes on every night. I've been to the pet store and the assistant told me to invest my money in a "bark reducer" whatever the hell that is, they said that it's something you put around a dogs neck and you can control the volume of their barks. I think that would be dangerous for the dog and because if it were really something going on then they wouldn't be able to let us know, so how can I get my dogs to not bark at every single sound that they hear? LOL well I've tried to look at it is if she's just being a dog. You're like the 100th person to side with her :)

Why does my 14 week old maltese keep throwing up and wont really move around alot?? I just picked up my baby maltese from the airport yesterday. He is 14 weeks old. He threw up in the car on the way home (understandable) then when we got home I gave him a bath & he seemed to be having so much fun. Running around, playing, snuggling, & now all he is doing is sleeping. It started last night at 2am I took him out to potty & he just plopped on the grass. I thought he was tired so I picked him up & he did it again. So when we got back inside he threw up. This morning at 7am he wouldnt go potty outside. I gave him food, water, pig ear, & plenty of toys &went to work. When I came home he had thrown up again. He hasnt eaten anything since I brought him home yesterday. I just took him to see my sister and all he did was lay in both of our arms. When I got home I put him down & he threw up. He is not sleeping again. Someone please help. I feel like he is getting worse & worse, very fast. Also his throw up isnt the normal yellowish color, its dark like brownish. Please help

Dogs interacting with new born babies? I just brought a new born baby into my house. He is about 1 week old. I have 2 dogs. My first one is a very small toy Maltese. He is very gentle and weighs about 6 pounds, but barks a lot. My other dog is an American Bulldog. She is about 48 pounds. She doesn't bark and bite, but she does enjoy jumping. Does a Maltese, Border Collie or Golden Retriever suit my lifestyle best? I know this is a far bit to read but I really need help and I would really appressiate it (: I have looked all night for the perfect dog for me and I narrowed it down to 3 dogs. We have a pretty big house and we are willing to let it be indoor. Our backyard is pretty small but not tiny. I go for regular walks (which would make you think the Border Collie or Golden Retriever suits me best) but I also enjoy little dogs company because they are so playful and loving but they do not like going for long huge walks and I want company on my huge walks. I like any sized dogs. I am 13 and we live in a family of 4. I am willing to brush, care, wash and groom the dog whenever needed. Also we don't want a dog type that will destroy our backyard and stuff! I give dogs ALLOT of attention (to much attention, also known as 'babying dogs') but I don't want them to be lost without me. I don't want a dog that will bark all the time but it wouldn't spend much time outside when I am home anyways. We go away every second weekend in the summer but we get it looked after but we need a dog that can handle that! I think that's it... (My last dog was a maltese/toy poodle and I loved it so much but it couldn't handle my walks and I had to cary it home most the time. Also he barked allot but when inside he was fine) So what dog do you personally thing? Border Collie, Golden Retriever or Maltese??? I never try these over the counter products mineral oil and baby oil for cleaning my dog ears, is any other over the counter dog ear cleaning products, I have toy poodle and maltese their are 16 years old. also, can i use hydro peroxide to clean outside the ears? which cleans better for sensitive ears? My dogs don't have ear mites or any crusted or any bad smell, I just want to clean them to prevent the debris on their ears. All they have is few debris on their ears and few yellow debris. my maltese has two rows of teeth. Some of them are her baby teeths that never came out. It makes her breaths? stinks. They are somewhat wobbly but since she doesnt like to chew on any toys and treats they arent falling off. Her teeths are crooked and like i said her breath smells bad!! Like rotten fish. Its unbearable. My question is can it be possible for me to take her teeth out by myself? Or do i need to take her to the vet to have it done. Or should i just let if falls off by itselfs? She will be one year next month and their not falling out. --She was a dog from a puppy mill and i have spent well over $3,600 trying to save her life. MY maltese territorial issues? hey guys! i had my baby female maltese for about 7~8 months now and she's .... total of about 10 months old~ now and i think she has territorial issues.. not to the family that she knows for a long time but she has issues with people passing by the house or animals around the house or just any kind of new sounds. she barks and barks and growls and growls until she doesn't see them for about 5 mins straight if she has to. it's worse when a stranger comes to the door.. or comes in..i can see that she's scared and goes wild barking and growling and yelping and crying when someone comes in the house.. she's so scared!! i don't know what to do... she 'll never stop barking until the stranger gets out of the house.. it can be and hour to 2 hours if it has to be. we take to away from the person, but she won't stop yelping and barking.. her treats her toys don't work.. if she's fixed on that target she'll never let it get away...im not sure if she'll bite..we didn't try that yet!! but she hates other dogs passing by either..we tried to take her out and walk but she'll go crazy whatever she sees ... when something moves ( :( so i was wondering if anyone can tell me specifically how to make her more calm....Ty guys

How is my Maltese doing in comparison to others? I am blessed to have a wonderful loving companion. Her name is Olive and she is a 1 year old female Maltese. When Olive was 4 months old she was diagnosed with a severe heart murmur. As a puppy she was very active and playful but not so much anymore. She tends to sleep a lot and is very skiddish. She is afraid of everything & everyone. She rarely barks. The only time she is heard is if she is left in or out of a room or if she gets protective over me. The vet that diagnosed Olive asked me to bring her back in for a check up when she was a year old. I did but unfortunately there were no improvements. He weighed her and she was 3 pounds. Olive used to eat Eukenuba but she didn't like it too much. I switched her to "Just a Wee Bit" by Solid Gold when she was about 5 months old and have noticed an improvent. She appears to have gained weight since the vet last weighed her. I think its because I acquired a new kitten and they are always competing over who can eat more. Olive is very small for a Maltese. I don't know her exact measurements but I know she weighs 3 pounds. Everyone always thinks she is a toy breed but she's a regular Maltese. I would love to know if anyone has any tips on how I can help her reach a healthy weight. Also I would like people to share about their Maltese's so I can get an idea of what a healthy Maltese acts like and what their measurements are.. I hope I didn't rant on too much about my baby girl and hopefully someone will share about their Maltese.

Dog Eating Baby Stuff? Ever since my little girl was born my 2 year old maltese has been misbehaving. She is a toy breed and has always been an inside dog. my friend doesnt take her dog out for walks?!? ok my friend has a dog. toy maltese. any dog owner knows ur supposed to take ur dog out every day for a walk and too pee and poop. and every dog owner knows that having a light nose means that the dog doesnt get enough sunshine and walks. she NEVER takes her dog out for a walk. i feel bad for the dog. because my friend was recently complaining that her dog's so weak that when they went running they ran for 2 minutes and she ended up carrying the dog home. my other friend and i keep telling her TAKE UR DOG OUT FOR WALKS! i dont have a dog but my other friend does and she takes her dog out like 3 times a day. and they never do. the dogs so weak. and since it's a toy maltese, its tinier and weaker and dies sooner. she's had it for 3 years and i have a feeling that the dog wont live as long as other dogs. maybe in another 1-3 years.. for half a year since i've seen her dog's nose i keep trying to convince her, and so does our other friend but she wouldnt listen, saying her baby's too tired and she doesnt want to get her paws dirty and that she doesnt have time. still, having a dog means comittment. and dog is like a human, and needs exercise and has to stay healthy and they have the right to exercise and be just as healthy as their owner. but she won't listen! i keep telling her her dog will die. how do i get her to walk her dog every day? at least every week or so. she says it's too cold in the winter too. i've never had a dog and want one so badly, so i feel like she's taking it for granted when i always go on the computer to research dogs and prove to my parents that i could take care of a dog. a dog means exercising with it as well, not just a fun cuddly pet. so how do i tell her to?

i got my maltese last week, she is so vicious! help with training her please? ok so, i got her a week ago and i named her mimi. she is a good dog and i realize that as puppies they feel the constant need to chew things. we got her like 5 toys and she still persists on chewing on my hands and feet. and when i tell her NO and smack her bum a little she attacks even harder and starts to growl..... then when she growls i say no louder and she barks at me, then i keep saying no and every time i do she barks even louder and eventually shuts up. should i keep on saying no and smacking her bum? this is what my friends trainer told me to do (smack bum when saying no) but it doesnt seem to be working i try to put the toy in her mouth instead but she ignors that and attacks my hands...i have like 20 scratches on my hands lmao im even begining to fear her a little... it seems like its just cuz she is teething but why does she insist on my hands instead of her toys? what can i do to stop this ? she is only 3 months old this week so i dont know how to deal with this cuz sometimes i feel like shes just a baby. any training tips? also is this a dominance thing? is she like challenging me? is is possible for a puppy of 3 months to try to assume alpha ? ok i am using positive reinforcement (she learned sit and down in one day!!) also i know she is being a puppy but why with the attacking! and no i dont think its cute...never did...lol oh yeah all her toys are chew toys not stuffed cuz from past experiences with my other dog, stuffed toys become easily unstuffed lol also she likes them , like when shes in her crate she is always chewing them, but when its her 1 hour free time she just bites our feet and hands and she gets many 1 hr free times during the day so dont worry abt that. so this isnt a dominance problem? how do i show her im the alpha? i have read that harsh things that work with other breeds dont work well with the maltese

I am getting a new dog soon and I want to know how I raise them wrong? I used to have a maltese/toy poodle and he was beautiful dog put when I saw other people walk past with there Maltese or toy poodle, shih tzu or whatever they were so well behaved and didn't even bark at the other dog? On the other hand mine barked frantically at the other dogs but then if they got time to sniff he was VERY friendly. So now I am getting a maltese I wonder, how come my dog did this? Not just my old dog but my dog before that as well! And I raised them the same sooo... My Dad recons I 'baby' my dog to much which leaves it fragile and lets it think it can do whatever it wants. Is this true? If not what do you think is?

Dog in heat question? My 8 month old dog(maltese/toy poodle) has been in heat for at least 3 week and just recently aside from her regular behavior,since I won't satisfy her "humping"with my arm she has been using one of her toys which she gets excited and places it around her estrus where she then humps the object and pants.We have an appt with her vet this coming Saturday and she's not spayed yet nor do we plan on breeding her.I'd like to know from other dog owners who had a female dog as to what they did to stop this behavior if anything.Could it be that she's ending her heat cycle which causes her to want to hump objects/people?Honest answers please.No games.Just a concerned owner who wants the best for her baby girl.Thanx in advance! @Jessie:Thank You!That was very helpful.I don't allow her to hump me.When she does I tell her "NO!,No humping!" @Leon:Thanks for the tip.I kind of figured that's what was going on.. @Leon:I will also talk to my parents to see if they want to get her spayed earlier before we see her vet on Saturday or if they just want to wait it out. @Jeff:thanks for the info.

Considering a NEW puppy but also considering my 6 year old dog? Any advise welcome.... My fiance and I are considering getting another dog. I have had my Maltese x Chihuahua dog since I was 18 and well before I meet my partner, she is now 6 years old. She is extremely loyal and very unsocial towards other dogs. When my partner first moved into the house she was very naughty (letting go in the house nearly every night for several months), now she loves him just as much as she loves me. Although we both love her personality now we are worried of how she may be towards children when we decide to have them. We are considering another dog to give her a play mate and pull her into line. Her behavior is not naughty now but we are afraid this will change once we have a new puppy or a baby. The puppy we are considering is a maltese x toy poodle x silky terrier. I would be happy to receive any advise or stories of similar stories..

Which dog breed should we get? My fiance' and I are planning on getting a puppy or two. But there's a catch, we're expecting a baby any day now. We ARE getting one so please don't suggest NOT getting one! We live in a condo in Manhattan. It's pretty spacious but has wood floors. So that means... not a dog too barky and not a dog that will scratch up the floors. I work as a dance teacher and Andrew works as a mechanic so that leaves the dog unattended to for atleast four hours a day. Keep in mind that I am allowed to take it to the dance studio and anywhere else I may need to go. I can bring it around with me if it's the right size. We can take the dog on 2-3 walks a day through the park. We want a dog that is easy to teach basic obedience to. Professional grooming and vet check ups are available as needed. The dog breeds available for us to get at this point are: Norfolk Terrier, Norwich Terrier, Bichon Frise, Pug, Corgi, Border Terrier, Cairn Terrier, English Toy Spaniel, Toy Poodle, Maltese, Yorkshire Terrier, Shih Tzu, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and possibly a Rat Terrier. Which on of these breeds do you think would work best for us. Also, please keep in mind we will have a newborn and two kittens. Thank you! (Please no further suggestions. why is my dog larthic and vomiting? My dog is a little over a year old. He is mixed with Maltese and toy pug. He is very cute and our baby. We have 3 other dogs plus him. This morning when i woke he was vomiting clear liquid? He vomited about 6 times within a few hours and now wont eat or drink any thing. He just lays around. Ive tried offering him water and food. even treats but he will not eat? the last few days he has ate more than usual, hes been quite the little pig. What to give my Maltese to have extra silky coat? I am getting two Maltese's in three days, and now I'm frustrated with dog food, treats, toys, supplies, and other stuff. I don't know what to give them to have silky coat but doesn't make them shed. Would scrambled or uncooked eggs help? is my dog pregnant or not? i have a one year old maltese named princess, and she went in heat in feb. well in march she gained alot of weight (3 pounds) and she's all lazy and doesnt want to be her active self, witch is unusual. she has a little alien toy that she carries everywhere with her and she cuddles with it and she also cleans it alot, like it's her baby. its now june and she's somewhat back to normal but hse still carries her "baby" around, she's getting tobe active again and is taking walks and going outside again, but i'm still kinda worried, what happened to her? did she go through a false pregnancy? or could something really be wrong with her?

My GF's girly Maltese dog keeps whining. This dog is spoiled! What should I do? ? I am dog sitting my GF's Maltese. I've owned BIG dogs (labs) but I have no idea what to do with this whiny little brat! She is really cute and sweet but she constantly wants attention. dogs and babies??? I am due with my first baby in 8 weeks.My husband and I have 3 dog,a five year old male golden retreiver,a 2 year old female maltese and a 14 month old female toy poodle.Our golden retriever,Harry is a very gentil dog and we've never had any major problems with him.However our maltese,Holly and our toy poodle,Izzie are a little bit bold.We've had problems with Holly being agressive with my 3 year old nephew.She has also snapped at 2 of my friends.Izzie has never shown aggression towards anyone,but shes very hyper and boisterous.They both go to obediance classes once a week for an hour.I've tried sociallising them with babies,Izzie was very friendly,but so rough.Holly just whined and growled.Does anyone know what to do?

My dog has behavior problems help me?!?!? Im going to start with the most important problem we have at the moment. we have 3 dogs. chip (12,male blind,cocker poodle recently had both eyes removed) snickers 10.5 maltese poodle,female and shadow (9 years male mini-poodle our problem child) Ever since Chip went blind shadow has become overly jealous, but recently it has became much worse when chip came home from the vet with his second eye removed. (january). naturally chip seemed to have a bit more attention, but we did our best to make sure shadow was still getting out for regular walks and played with. so he's not getting ignored whats so ever. but they have two chairs which they are aloud on ( recliner chairs) and if shadows on a chair or in the dog bed chip is not aloud in or on either, he growls and will bite chip (which isn't fair since chips still adjusting to having absolutely no sight) and if chips on or in either one first shadows apparently aloud in and on both, but if chip moves shadow gets overly upset and will growl at him. he seems to have created a resentment towards chip, when before they used to be the best of friends. but if anyone touches or acknowledges chip shadow has to get in there and will literally push him out of the way. shadow cant not be the one getting attention, but he's so jealous that now he will literally stare at you with his tail between his legs, and just watch, he doesn't want to play with the ball any more unless chip wants to play, he doesn't want to play with his duck rope toy and when he does we throw it once and he wont bring it back, but he'll come up to us and just stare at us for like 10/15 min. it doesn't come off as a evil mean stare but more so of a i'm watching you, and i will follow you to make sure you don't go to chip. which unfortunately snickers has caught onto as in if chip walks into her she will bite him. but thats just one of his behaviour problems. i have a bunch, but i'm having a baby any day now and we've been working with him out side the house, inside the house. i watch dog whisperer and have tried those techniques, but i'm missing something. were missing something. these dogs are my moms and dads (well shadow was/is mine but i moved out a few years ago, but am here almost on a daily basis) and chip was my sisters but she's moved away and rarely shows, and snickers is my mums and dads. but i'm having a baby and need to learn how to change my actions to change his actions and aggression so he doesn't hurt my baby, the vet already knows if anything happens he will be put down. i don't want to put him down, i want to fix us our relationship and his and chips relation ship. but i cant take him for a walk with out a muzzle and he still trys to fight the dogs, unless they ignore him. and he cant go into the back yard with out stirring up all the other dogs down the back ally. and starting fights with dogs and people walking by. so were going to work on in the house problems because thats where we are most of the time. 3 hrs a week we get him out.

How to prevent dog from biting her nails? Basically I want to know this: Is there a gross tasting substance that I can *safely* put on my Maltese's paws to prevent her from biting her nails? Background: She chews 2 to 3 nails on all 4 feet. It's like an obsessive compulsive thing. An anxiety thing. She does it to soothe herself or out of boredom or out of nerves. It is not a medical problem. There is nothing wrong with her paws or her skin or the webbing etc. It's mental! lol She started doing this over the summer. I've tried gently and kindly distracting her, getting a toy and playing with her, redirecting her attention in a positive way, but its not enough. She still obsessively chews her nails AND LICKS. It's not just nail biting, it's also a licking obsession. But right now I'm just asking for nail biting answers lol. This is a problem because it frays her nails. They splinter. When she simply wants to run across your lap or jump on you it feels like fish hooks grazing your legs/body. It hurts!! (She doesn't mean to hurt us though). I have a baby due in a week and I don't want the baby accidentally getting scratched as she grows up. I get her nails grinded at Petsmart grooming and also have a Pedi-Paws and dog nail clippers. But short of using those things EVERY SINGLE DAY I was hoping there was some SAFE, yet gross tasting substance that I could put on her paws to prevent this from continuing.

is this right: my friend bred her JRT on her 3rd season...? ok, forgetting the whole ethics of it, i kno she shouldnt breed her dogs, believe me i've told her exactly what i think of it, but she msg'ed me yesterday telling me her JRT as had a litter of 5 with a toy poodle, to make jackapoos, her dog is younger than my JRT who is still a baby to us! i told her she was to young and her response was this: 'nah, she's fine, the birth went well and besides, we always breed ours on their third season.' ive heard this b4, that a female has problems with birthing and rearing her litter if she is any younger, but that doesnt mean you SHOULD breed your dog as early as possible to get as many litters as possible from her! her dog is only 1 and a half yrs old, the poor thing is already a mother and i dont know whether its just me, but they have pics of her with her pups suckling on facebook, and to me her dog looks VERY unhappy. i am kind of disgusted with my friend. i cant throw away years of friendship though, i have trouble making friends so how can i tell her its wrong, she and her family are wrong? also, the liter were born yesterday and today their poodle is being taken to a stud, i said it was wrong they should at least look after the pups they have now, and her response was 'its alright, she will carry them for 9 weeks, and the jackapoos will be gone in 8 weeks time' however, they bred their british bull dog last year and had imense problems in selling them, they ended up keeping one of them and he hasnt been castrated, yet he lives in a house with many other female dogs: his mother, british bull dog yorkshire terrier JRT poodle german spitz maltese all of which either have been or will be bred. we had an argument once when i sed she was just a BYB, but she started reeling off a load of info telling me the dogs werent in cages, they were up to date with boosters and vet check ups, the mates were chosen carefully from pedigree studs who have crufts history and between their litters they have one or 2 seasons rest. i still think they are wrong though, the only reason they ARE pedigree is purely because of their value. when the bulldogs were born i remember my friends mum laughing at me and saying 'well thats the mortgage sorted, 5 times over!' shes a good friend, but im starting to see her as a terrible person, i cant call the RSPCA on her either, her neighbour already did and the RSPCA said she was doing nothing wrong because they leave their dogs until their 3rd season and give them rest periods and regular vet check ups. the caps lock is used to emphasize some of my words, sorry if i over used it, and in the case of writing 'the royal society for the protection and care of animals, i figured it didnt look right typing it in lower case, so i used capitals, though it should be correctly typed R.S.P.C.A. sorry for bothering all of you by my inadequate grammar. thank you kelsey for your help.

puppy not wanting to be alone? I have a 10 week old Maltese puppy who hates being alone. He's going through that chewing stage so when he is out running around I like to keep an eye on him. But when I'm busy I have been putting him in the bathroom and blocking him off with a baby gate. But as soon as I leave he starts barking and crying. Also I'm in the process of paper training him, I have the paper in the a dog litter pan in the bathroom so whenever he decides to stop barking and crying he'll then start ripping up the paper instead of playing with his toys. He has lots of toys to play with and will quietly play with them if I'm there with him but not when he's alone. How can I get him to be more independent and not have to be with me all the time? Oh and he does have a crate, the crate is in my bedroom and he’s fine when I put him in there. But the thing is it’s a small crate and he can’t really run around and play in there. I do ignore him when he starts crying, I try not to even look at him until he gets quiet. That’s when he newspaper shredding starts, he'll cry and whine for a long time then stop and start with the newspaper.

Do i have a depressed pup? I've had my baby (11 weeks old maltese puppy) for about 2 weeks whenever i put her in her pen she would always whine, howl, etc. but now, she just sits there, on her bed, without a word. When I try to play with her, she's indifferent and doesn't even bother to come when i call for her. She wont try to go on anyone's lap anymore and either walks around or lies on her bed. Also, she only plays with a small stuffed toy and tries to tear it to shreds, thankfully, that didn't happen yet. . but other than that, she doesn't do anything else. . .; is this puppy depression? my brother's on break from his school and i started school again on monday so we've been with her for two weeks. my brother's going to be with her for another two weeks ( all day) and my mom leaves for work at 10 and comes back at two. we only keep her in the pen when we fall asleep, go out for a long period of time or eat. When we go somewhere close like groccery shopping, I usually take her with me and my mom and i stay in the car with her (i can't stand to be away from her!) and when my mom picks me up, she brings her with her.

Really upset right now. My dad abuses our dog.? So right now I’m really upset, I’m not sure what I should do. We have three dogs, a husky/Aussie mix, a boston terrier and a miniature poodle/maltese mix (my Dad’s baby who is allowed to do whatever he pleases and my dad think it’s really funny.) Well the boston terrier has a special toy that he loves and he always plays with, it’s the only toy he has while my dad’s dog has about 12. So the husky/aussie mix tried to take the toy from the boston terrier and he snapped at her and snarled. When my dad heard this he ran upstairs and started screaming at the boston terrier, he just screamed at him saying “Get out, go away!” My dad kicked him several times, smacked him several times, took this gate we have to block off some of the doors and bashed him over the head with it while the boston terrier was snarling the entire time but obviously because he was scared, he then ran and hid under the bed and my dad takes the gate and hits the bed to scare him out and when he comes out smacks him with it so that he snarls and goes back under the bed and my dad keeps getting angrier. During this time my mom, my brother and I are down stairs. My mom said she was scared, my brother couldn’t take it he was really upset and went outside and cried and I was just totally freaked out I thought about calling animal control, I don’t even like that dog but I was really upset. When my brother came in my dad was still screaming at the boston terrier and you could hear him snarling while my dad was bashing around the gate. My brother can easily get the dog to behave and get out from under the bed because, DUH he’s nice to the dog and doesn’t act like a maniac but my dad wouldn’t even let him try! He just wanted to keeping yelling and hitting the dog. My dad then storms down stairs and said he was done with the dog and he was gonna shoot him. My brother ran upstairs and got him to come out from under the bed. When I went upstairs and saw the poor dog his eyes were completely red and it felt like he had a bump on his back. He came up to me and just laid on my lap and I started balling. I feel so disgusted with my dad. I don’t know what to do. This isn’t even the first time he’s done this to that dog and he wonders why the boston terrier doesn’t listen to him! My dad claims he’s a dog lover and even used to work at an animal shelter but I’m so sick of his abuse to that dog. I’m afraid he’s gonna get killed one day. He’s also had a few seizures before so I’m also worried about all that abuse causing him to have one and die. My family has all told my dad that he needs to stop but he obviously didn't listen to us. Oh no, he doesn't hit kids. He's never been abusive at all to people or any other animals actually. But that doesn't excuse him for hurting this poor dog.

5 month old puppies. Eating everything. Can I give them rawhide? Please help!! thanks. my house is destroyed.? Hi, I have two 5 months old boy puppies that I rescued when they were 9 weeks old. They are a mix between a Bichon Frise/Maltese (so cute!). When they were younger, I let them chew on bully sticks, Greenies, and flossies (which is a bully stick that looks like a slinkie toy). NOW, I can't give them greenies because they eat them SO fast and I worry they will choke on the final piece. I can't give them flossies or bully sticks (which are their favorite chew toys) because they eat them in 20 minutes. They HATE nylabones. I bought a pack of those plastic puppy ones..they won't touch them. I have stayed away from Rawhide because of all those sites out there that are against it. Is it safe? I am home 90% of the day with them, and only let them have chew toys when I am in the room. They are starting to lose their baby teeth, and I really want to help, and am out of options!! Maybe I should give up on saving the couch and carpet, and let them continue chewing that all day...just kidding! Anyways, any advice would be great. Which one of these dog breeds would fit my lifestyle? My fiance' and I are looking into getting a puppy or two. I know it sounds crazy but we also have a baby due in a couple of weeks. I'm going to tell you our lifestyle and then the breeds available for us to get I need you to tell me which breeds would work best for us. Lifestyle: We live in Manhattan. I work as a dance teacher and he works as an accountant. We have our first child due in a few weeks. I am currently working on opening up my own bakery. We are also planning a wedding! We live in a condo so we have neighbors. I would be able to take the dog around with me as needed. We can bring the dog to professional grooming and the vet as often as needed. my dog got another dog pregnant? my male toy poodle is one years old and i just had a baby. my baby came four weeks early so i had to have someone look after my dog and because i was in such a rush my neighbour suggested to look after him and as i knew she had a female maltese i let her know my dog wasn't yet neutered (i had other things to worry about with my pregnancy, id been very very busy all year so that's why he hadn't been nurtured yet) and she assured me that her female dog wasn't in season and wouldn't be for a while so she couldn't get pregnant. and yes i do have my dog booked in to get spayed in a couple of weeks. anyway now her dog is pregnant and she is asking me to give her money to look after the pups. she is asking for 500 dollars. i really cant afford to give her that much money atm. do you think i should? am i in the wrong for letting her look after my not yet de-sexed dog, so therefore i should have to help bring upp the pupps? she told me that she will not abort the pups because its not fair.

Potty training my puppy what about bed time? I just got the CUTEST sweetest little puppy. He is about 13 1/2 weeks old. He is a toy poodle mixed with a Maltese dog. They call him a designer dog. I really don't care about all that I just think he is sweet and I want to give him a good home and raise him right. My husband and I decided to train him using pee-pads. we got the spray that attracts dogs to go and he goes on the pad and not the title when he is in a small room and we put up a baby gate. The problem we are having is at night. We sleep with him and the first 2 nights every time he got up to move I put him on the potty pad and say "go pee" and he did, however after now we are not having that type of luck. In the middle of the night I feel wet spots here and there all over the bed. We do have a waterproof mattress protector but we don't want this to continue. What should we do? We do want to sleep with him. Is there any way we can teach him another way then when he is older have him sleep with us? We want to be able to sleep with him he is so sweet and cuddly and not have any accidents. Thank you!!!!

my "puppy's" behaving oddly!? She is JUST over a year old, and has had her first heat over 3 months ago. We plan to in the FAR Future breed her, but neither we nor the puppy are quite ready for that. She is a Maltese, and more like a baby than a dog, but recently she has been doing ODD things! First of all she RARELY plays with her toys, she'd rather snuggle, but ever since a few days ago she has been OBSESSED with her toys, and cry's when she is playing with them (although she is in perfect health!) she has also started crying randomly when she is a QUIET dog! Another thing she has been doing is growling WAY more over nothing! She usually growls when my bf comes home, or opens the door when we(me and the puppy) are sleeping, or when someone is holding her and she wants me. But lately she has just been growling at EVERYTHING besides me, she never growls at me. She has been having more anxiety than usual, when I go out with out her, starts shaking, and usually she runs to the door before I can get there, but lately she has just cried, and shook. I don't leave her alone for more than a few hours, but she doesn't even like it when I go to the bathroom with out her. THEN today she did something she has NEVER done! She was humping the blanket.I told her "no" and she stopped. She also FREAKS out when random strangers walk by, and only sometimes, but usually she is VERY friendly. I KNOW she is not pregnant, because I am with her ALL day, there are NO male dogs around, and when I do leave her she is in the room with the door locked. WHY has she suddenly become playful, and aggressive towards ppl. and why is she humping??

What is wrong with my dog, angry depressed? My male bichon is 5 years old and we got a puppy (female maltese) in April Lately he has been acting strangley, I think he is jealous of the puppy During the day I keep them both in my living room with baby gates up. In the room I leave food, water, toys, and wee wee pads because I'm usually gone about 4-5 hrs everyday My male will bark endlessly and chase the female, he will whine cry and go absolutley crazy. His nose is wet and such, he seems perfectly healthy and the vet just saw him last month, but he is acting very strangley Also, he barks, whines, and cries during just about everything, walks, eating, etc.

Why Won't My Puppy Stop Whining???!!!? I know puppies whine and cry, but my little one seems to do it all day long. I'm trying to crate train her, but she doesn't like being in her crate. I made it as comfy as possible, with a nice soft dog bed, little blanket and a few toys. She just doesn't want to be away from us. So I wake up several times during the night too, because of her crying. It's like having a baby!! Lol. Well, she's 7 weeks old and is a maltese/poodle mix. how to stop my corso attacking other animals? I have a 6 month old cane corso puppy. I know he is just a baby which is why i am trying to have alot of patience for him but im starting to get a bit frustrated. I have 2 ducks and 2 chooks and he loves to chase them around. The problem is if he catches them he will kill them. He has already killed two of my chooks and just cant seem to stop himself from trying to get the other two. I don't think he killed them on purpose its just that he is a big boy and he obviously thinks they are his toys. He gets in trouble but i don't want to smack him or anything so im not sure how to make him stop. We are animal lovers in my family and he needs to learn to get along with everyone. any one have any suggestions? I also have another dog (staffy) who he plays with and a mini horse so i know its not a case of boredom. He also has plenty of toys and gets new bone every couple of days to chew on. Also this afternoon he attacked my mother in-laws maltese. He grabbed her in his mouth and threw her!! She didn't have any wounds on her but i still don't want him to think this is ok behaviour. (for the record the maltese broke out of her yard across the road and came to my house which was why he had the chance to grab her.) any advice would be appreciated Ok when it comes to the breed i researched it thoroughly! I will not put my dog down as when it comes to my human family members he knows his place! Im not a push over and he does get disciplined i just dont believe in being cruel. I knew when i got him i would have to be firm etc etc and i have experience with animals (dogs aswell) with attitude. I just cant make him understand that the chooks and ducks are off limits. Im going to get serious with his training and socializing i was just hoping some one could give me some advice that i dont already know or have thought of.

dog issues............? i have two dogs a maltese- 9 years old and a lab- not even a year old yet my lab is so much bigger than my maltese and could actually kill her if he wanted to he's not aggressive with humans... i.e... i can take his food, toys, water, etc away... i can do whatever and he won't hurt me for the most part he's really nice to my maltese but every once in a while he'll have to the point right before he could potentially hurt her.. i.e on her back with his teeth close to her throat and he'll grawl and whatnot and somebody has to rush over and pull him away... from here normally whoever it is takes him and puts him in his cage for a few minutes then he'll come out and be nice but how do i get him to not do this? cuz it's scary we dont leave him home alone yet cuz he's still a a baby but we wont ever be able to leave him home alone if he continues this

Im so depressed....i need talk just get my mind of what happened.......? My beautiful minature maltese Lola, during this past saturday got hit by a car .....everyone is so depressed in my house im am only 12 and wish i could have died with her...i cant even exlain how much she ment to me the most excitable loving naughtiest 2 year old malteses life is over ...just like that i cant believe that shes gone i dont want to believe, we happen to live on one of the buisiest streets in London Ontario, but i really think God blessed us because first of all she had no pain when the car hit her, she had broken her neck, instant death......and second knowone in my family saw her get hit....but my mom is just in the worst condition i have ever seen her in i have never seen her cry soo much lola was a part of our family ...almost like the baby everyone adored her,i am in an orchestra i play the violin and every saturday morning i go to the orchestra , i was and always am in a rush to leve saturday mornings because it satrts at 9:30 and i usually sleep in...so i feel like i barely even saw her befor she died like i didnt get to kiss her one more time or pick her up and tell her how much i loved her..she was the best dog i could ever ask for ...but my mom befor we left got mad at her for peeing on our rug and pooing in her bedroom and that was the last memory me and my mom had...my mom yelling at her saying 'BAD GIRL..NO!" and me hearing that ..the wierd thing is a few days befor the accident i was holding her in my arms acting (pretending) like it would be the last time i saw her how i would cherish the moment....and i think maybe that was a sighn from God....and morning of that saturday i remember her scratching at my door and me saying "hold on Lola" as i usually did because i was to tired to let her in ...then when i do she is always the most excitable creature on the planet at that time besides when i come home from school....and the day she died and i let her in i remember her giving me tons of puppy kisses like she had never done befor....almost one the happiest times i ever saw her in....we buried her infront of the gigantic ravine we have behind our house almost like a cliff because that is were alot of wind blows up and is were she stood acting like the queen of the world..with her beautiful silky pearly white coat blowing past her face....each member of my family left notes for her and put some little toys and things that once belonged to her or reminded us of her...i put in a miniature kelly doll from when i was a newborn that she just happened to chew up....to think i used to be mad about that i couldnt be happier now...she has chewed alot of my brothers toys up to and alot of mine wich am now soo happy about there little memories of my lola...i will miss her for eternity and cant even describe how much i loved her.....i will miss her sooo much.....

Puppy Questions! Real help would be greatly appreciated!? My Husband just got me an adorable little puppy, he is a Maltese-poodle mix and he is 10 weeks old. I know he is a baby, but I just want to know if sleeping a lot is normal and ok? I try to "rough him up" a little bit, as in, im trying to get him to use his toys and play with him. Trying to call him by his name but he's too young to answer. How do I get him to answer to his name? Also, the breeder said he is litter trained, and tommorrow we are going to buy littler and a box, but how should i train him to use it at our house? My dog is sad, I don't know what to do? My mom decided last year to get a dog, and we have had him for a year now. We got him when he was a puppy. He is the apple of our eyes. However, lately he has been so sad. When we leave for work during the day, he wont even look at us, He turns his whole body around in his bed like he is mad. He is not crated and has the run of the entire kitchen (its pretty big), we leave him with lots of toys, however, he just sleeps all day or lies down, I know this because every time we come home, I can see him from the window and he is always lying in his bed. Out of anger, he has started to chew on things; I realize that dogs do this but this is excessive. When we get home, nips us on our hands as if to say, "i am mad at you, why did you leave me here by myself", and the only time he is happy is when we are holding him or when were on a walk, which we make time for each day. However, he wants our undivided attention 24/7. We cant do housework, or watch television, or anything for that matter or he cries, he always wants to be held like a baby. We have tried to buy him dog bones but he just walks around the house with them in his mouth and cries till we let him outside where he buries them. When we let him outside, he wont even stay out there, unless we are there. And because he sleeps all day he is awake most of the night crying or wide awake because he sleeps all day. I know he is depressed. I don't know what to do. My heart hurts for him. All day I wonder how he is doing. What can I do? Can I do anything to some his depression? He is a Maltese Shih tzu. what should i know about my new mal-shi puppy? We just got a 7 week old maltese shih tzu mix puppy. we already have a 6 year old dacshund and we are so used to him i dont know what to do with the baby. He is constantly chewing and tugging on my shirt/socks/blankets. He is also biting the corners or furniture. we got him plenty of chew toys so i try and distract him. He is sooooo playful and we love it but thats one issue. here are the others He will only eat/drink if i sit by him and his food bowl. If i leave the room AT ALL he cries. He also cries in his bed at night wanting me. anyway ANY advise on this breed of dog and things i should know would be great! guys you dont have to be so RUDE. I did not buy this dog it was given to me by a friend who's maltese and shihtzu had a litter. They ARE NOT breeders. Jeez! I love this little fur ball. keep that in mind oh and one more thing. What are some fun things I can do with my dog in summer, winter, spring, fall,? Title says it all. Like me and my dog play fetch with toys, balls, etc. but what are somethings I can do with him that he will understand what we're doing.. thats fun for him.. that he'll remember!!? Any games? Recipes? Things to do? Places to go? Anything anything anything! My dog is a 7lbs Westie/Maltese puppy ,(6 months) and he isn't a perky, yappy, bratty dog. I treat him like he is a German Shephard. I don't treat him like Paris Hilton's dog. So he thinks he is big. And he loves running, LOVES the forest/wilderness, I mean this dog can walk all day! He loves to wrestle, and play aggressivley.. yet he cuddles like a little baby aswell! So I pretty much can do anything with him, but WHAT!? NOTE: Where I live, its city/townish like. is our maltese sick? he also pees all over, btw.? you think the dog might be depressed? he humps everything, pillows blankets and stuffed animals. he now thinks the toys are real and he shares his treats with them. he cries when he sees the female dog, they are totally separated, and he tries to hump her all the time. that is what he does all day pretty much. and he pees all over the house. on boxes on the floor on chairs on the door. can it be because he can't get some with my other baby dog, which is a diff breed x_x? aaah and they dont want to neuter him. its so bad in the kitchen and living rm where he roams free that i act up with my allergies sometimes. GROSS! what are we going to do with this dog?

My six month old shipoo puppy is territorial with other dogs' toys, what do I do? she loves all dogs otherwise? She loves all dogs, big and small and shares well with my mom's dog a huge german shepard. She is friendly but when she is around other small dogs, she steals their toys and growls at them when they try to get their toys back. Today she even jumped at a maltese and accidentally bite my hand. She has never done this before! What's going on and what do I do? She is really sweet to people, babies and other dogs so I am confused, why the toys? Also she is going to be spayed next week, I am hoping this helps.
