Is breast feeding then switching to a bottle when they are older but using breastmilk still just as good?
Is breast feeding then switching to a bottle when they are older but using breastmilk still just as good after they are a year old? In other words if our baby can drink from a sippy cup say at around a year and I pumped breast milk and fed them that in the sippy, is this just as good as breastfeeding them past a year?

- it is just as good. The only thing is the bonding factor, but one year, I would say, is a great time to go to bottle.
- yes, i think it is
- Breastfeeding is more for the milk than the actual nursing fromthe breast. While that helps form a bond for mom and baby the milk is the same from the tap as it is if you pump and put it in a cup.
- its perfectly fine...shes still getting the nutrition from the breast milk...with my son he wouldnt latch on properly or long enough and it hurt almost as bad as labor so i began pumping and gave it to him in a bottle.
- my goodness yes. It doesn't matter how they recieve it, it is studied knowledge anywhere past a year up to two years of any consumption of breastmilk is the best any baby can have.
- Yep it is just as good!
- Yes it is & a very smart decision to make!
- Yes it is.
- After breaskfeeding from the breast for a whole year you have formed that bond and you will do very well to switch to giving breast milk in a sippy cup. Good for you that you were able to produce breastmilk that long.
- pluuuuu to even the bonding factor i didn't breast feed after the first two weeks because of medical problems and they have bonded with me just fine ... switching is just fine.
- Milk changes constantly -- throughout a feed, throughout the day, in response to maternal or child illness, etcetera, and sucking at the breast is good for babies' facial and jaw development in the way that sucking at bottles and sippy cups are not. It is not bad, but it is never 'just as good.'
- In terms of nutrition, it's pretty much just as good, but it's really hard to pump milk continuously like that. If you are concerned about your baby remembering you feeding him/her or you are a little weirded out by it, don't worry, I was too at first. Your baby won't remember any of this and it's perfectly natural to nurse your baby for the first couple of years, that's what's recommended by the World Health Organization. The main thing you will use by going to milk from a sippy cup is the comfort that babies get from nursing. When my little one is sick or when things are scary for her (like when we moved) she wanted to nurse a little more often. It just makes her feel safe. No matter what you choose to do, don't let anyone bust your chops about it. Do what works best for you and your baby.
- Yep, just as good, albeit a little more inconvenient. Why not just feed straight from the tap, lol? Reynolds, au contraire.....breastfeeding is SO MUCH MORE than just the milk!!!!
