What are your thoughts on breast feeding?

I got into a discussion about breast feeding and I'd like to know what other think about it... -Do you find it disturbing? -Should it be done in public? -Should there be laws for it or against it? -What age should the child stop breast feeding? -Any other thoughts?

Public Response to What are your thoughts on breast feeding?

  1. - I don't find it disturbing, it's natural - I believe it should not be done in public - I don't think there should be laws against it (doing it in public), it should just be out of courtesy not to do it - I think after the age of 1 is a good age to stop * When I say it should not be done in public, I mean not out in the open, like it shouldn't draw attention.
  2. i am very pro-breast feeding. - i don't find it disturbing at all unless your child is over the age of 2 years and still nursing. - it should be done in public. but i don't think women should just pop their breasts out and go about it. i think there should be a blanket and covering up should be done.. i know a lot of women feel that since they are breast feeding that their breasts aren't viewed as breasts anymore. they are so wrong. a boob is a boob. and some children and adult men even teenagers shouldn't be exposed to it. - there shouldn't be laws against it, because like i said, some women are just very comfortable with nursing in public. i nursed my first son (and plan on nursing my second son) and i did it in public but i always always had a big blanket to keep covered up. - breast feeding should stop once a child is able to come up to you, pull your shirt half off, and ask for your boob. i think that is ridiculous and it shouldn't be allowed. but again, no laws because some women feel differently about it and don't think there is anything wrong with nursing their 8 year old child (YouTube that.. women really do do it!!) - my other thoughts are why do stay at home moms choose not to nurse. not all stay at home moms do that.. but more than you think. i'm stay at home mom now and i'm going to nurse for the first year. i just dont' see why, if you're staying at home with your baby and thats what you do why you can't breast feed. it saves over 2000$ a year!!
  3. -Do you find it disturbing? no its naturally -Should it be done in public? yes, we all need to feed and breast arn't classified as genitals -Should there be laws for it or against it? there should be a law for it -What age should the child stop breast feeding? I don't know, may by 9 months -Any other thoughts?
  4. -Do you find it disturbing? Why would I find feeding a child disturbing? It's natural and not in any way sexual. Breasts are not sexual organs; they are designed to feed babies. -Should it be done in public? I wouldn't want to eat my lunch in a toilet, so I certainly wouldn't ask a mother to feed her child in a restroom. I personally was discreet about it, just because some people are perverts and tried to turn something that is not in any way gross into something dirty. I covered myself (not my baby) with a light blanket, but I refused to make my child eat in a restroom simply because some people are perverted. -Should there be laws for it or against it? There are, actually. Most states have laws to protect the rights of breast feeding mothers and children. -What age should the child stop breast feeding? The AAP recommends a minimum of one year, while the WHO recommends a minimum of two years. Both agree that breast feeding should continue as long as Mom and Baby both want. -Any other thoughts? It is a fact that breast milk is the healthiest form of nutrition that one could possibly give a baby. Look on the back of any formula container, and you'll read the same.
  5. As far as I am concerned that is what women are made for. God made us physically this way for a reason. It is the healthiest thing for the baby and the mother. They have done studies and the longer you breast feed up to a year the chances of breast cancer declines. It can also be done in public if done discreetly. I have been known to do it and people do not even know you are doing it. They just think the baby is sleeping. A child should stop at around a year old or possibly younger if they wean themselves. My son weaned himself at 7 months. He just started to do morning and night then just night. It is a mothers preference. I have know some parents to do it till 4 years. It is way too long. There should be some limits. Hope this helps. :)
  6. Breast feeding is not disturbing. It's the best source of nutrition for the babies. If it is done in the public, use a thin blanket to cover it. There shouldn't be laws against it. It's a personal choice, and again if feeding a child is against the law...this world is insane! Weaning has to come from both mother and the child. You don't want to traumatize the child by pushing him/her to wean. Just relax and enjoy it!
  7. It's not remotely disturbing; it should be done wherever is convenient and comfortable for mother and baby; there should be (and are, in some places) laws preventing people from stopping mothers from doing it in public; and babies should be weaned when either mother or baby feels it's time. Breastfeeding is indisputably a great thing. On the other hand, some people medically can't breastfeed. Equally obnoxious with criticizing someone for breastfeeding is criticizing someone who isn't, who, odds are, has a very good reason. Breast is best, but bottle beats starvation and people should keep their mouths shut when they don't know all the circumstances.
  8. Breasts where designed to feed children. IEverybody else has the right to eat in public. f we ban breast feeding we need to also band bottles, sippy cups, forks, knives, spoons, and other utensials in public. A child should stop breatfeeding when they no longer need the nutrients from the milk. I understand there are some mothers who can not breastfeed, but it annoys e when people want it banned becuase they see breasts as sex objects.
  9. It is not disturbing, it is actually better for the baby, and it is ok to do it in public if necessary. Its natural
  10. -no -sure -like what? no. -2 -none whatsoever.
  11. Studies show that breastfed children have higher IQ then battle fed . That's one of many good reasons to breastfeed them.
  12. -It's not disturbing - In public ok, as long as they cover themselves up somehow. Sorry, but not going to show my boob with or without a baby on it. - Laws against what? No. - Wean by 1 year old or 18 months TOPS.
  13. I am currently breastfeeding my baby. - It is NOT disturbing, we as women, were given breasts for a reason - and its only NATURAL to feed your baby that way. - It should and can be done in public, if people weren't so narrow-minded about things and get offended, women wouldn't feel the need to lock themselves away. What if you go somewhere and there are no feeding rooms? Should we just not feed the baby to please the ignorant majority? I love how the human breast is only offensive when a child is latched onto it - what about women who walk around with half of their breast hanging out of a skimpy top? Double standards much!! - Laws for it? LOL so you think they will pass a law against feeding your baby the way nature intended it? - I plan to stop breastfeeding my child around 10 months old.
  14. -Do you find it disturbing? No, and anyone who does has issues. -Should it be done in public? If necessary, sure. Most women are able to feed in such a way that, unless you look closely, you can't even tell they're feeding. And if you're looking that closely, you shouldn't be. Besides, what would you rather have to put up with in public - a woman and her baby quietly breastfeeding, or a baby crying loudly because it wants to be fed? -Should there be laws for it or against it? What do you mean by 'laws for it'? If you mean laws that say a woman can't be discriminated against for breastfeeding, ie asked to leave a public place or restaurant, then yes, there should be. There certainly should not be any kind of law against anything to do with breastfeeding. -What age should the child stop breast feeding? That's up to the mother. I think after a certain point it becomes about the mother's needs more than the child's, but that's a tiny minority of cases. Generally speaking, the longer a child breastfeeds the better. -Any other thoughts? People who expect a woman to go to the bathroom to breastfeed should try eating their dinner there and see how they like it.
