Why does one of the milk ducts in my breast show a pinkish color when breast feeding?

My daughter is 4 months old and I stopped breast feeding her at 7 weeks old. She has been throwing up all of her formula's since. She has been on like 4 different formulas. She is on Nutramigen now, which is a hypoallergenic formula. She is still throwing this one up but not as much as the others. I was talking to someone and they told me to try breast feeding her a little. Milk is still in my breast and she will take it, but on one of the ducts where the milk is coming out it has a pinkish color. Is this blood or what? Is it ok for her to eat from? She seems to want it but I don't want her to get sick from it either. Does anyone have any suggestion?

  1. usually if there is redness then it is a clogged duct. do you have some tenderness there? or does it feel full all of the time. just keep having her eat from that side more oftern and pump it as long as there is no blood in you actual milk, you can pump to see
  2. I breastfed my kids and I got support from the WIC office. They encourage women to breastfed. Try giving them a call. I breastfed my kids but I don't really know what are you asking and don't want to venture in giving you advice when you might have an infection or something like it. I do remember that you could get infections, one of them called mastitis. You could also have yeast infections. Try asking the pediatrician too.
  3. You may have mastitis, which is a clogged duct. I am getting over a case of it now. If it is Mastitis, the milk is perfectly okay for baby. It can be dangerous for you. I felt like I had the flu, fever, chills, aches. If you experience any of those symptoms, GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR! Mastitis can be serious and usually requires antibiotics, which don't harm the baby. If left untreated you can end up needing to be hospitalized. It may be nothing, but if you do experience other symptoms, don't ignore it.
  4. We used to call that "rusty pipes". No, it is not harmful and it won't make her sick. It will go away if you continue to nurse.
