UK only - What are the routine baby health appointments through the first two years?

My boy is now nine months but has not see the doctor for some time, I think since his last 4 months jabs. Somebody mentioned a routine 9 months visit?

Public Response to UK only - What are the routine baby health appointments through the first two years?

  1. Please dont quote me on this as I am unsure what the exact timings are (my son is 5 1/2 months old so havent had them yet). There is a 6-9 month development check, 20-24 month check, 3 1/2 years and then when they are about to start school. There is also injections at 12 and 13 months (I think these are the MMR) Ive just read what was said below me, and maybe it is different depending on where in the UK you live, but i definately know that my son will have a developmental check at about 9 months because I know other mums in my area who have had them done at this age.
  2. My daughter is 11 months old, and I take her to be weighed, but she hasnt seen the doctor since 4 months when she had her last jabs. She is due for her MMR at about 13 months. I never had a 9 month check.
  3. There are no set times anymore. It is all down to your local Health Authority. Contact your health visitor and ask what their policy is on routine visits. I was waiting for my daughter's 2 year health check and when I phoned the health visitor she booked us in for when she was nearly 3, then told me they were phasing out the 2 year health check!
  4. they no longer do a 9 month development check. Some clinics do invite you in around 7months for a group session to discuss baby development but you don't have to attend.
