Doh, missed the 30 day deadline to get newborn baby on health insurance. Now what?

I am assuming I have to pay the $3000 dollars we owe ourselves? We didn't know about a deadline and the paperwork we were given got misplaced. Any ways to get some of those bills covered?

Public Response to Doh, missed the 30 day deadline to get newborn baby on health insurance. Now what?

  1. Call your insurance company and/or employer and BEG! : )
  2. depends on your insurance...you might have to pay for it
  3. sure that they can overlook the deadline some how if they have a heart
  4. If you can qualify for it, why not try for the medicaid card in your state. That would help. But if not, then just make the payments you can afford every month. They can't force you to pay the whole thing at one time if you are at least attempting to pay the bill. Good luck with it!
  5. First thing tomorrow call your insurance agent. You'll probably still be able to add and get coverage retroactively. The thing they might try to fight you on is getting pre-existing conditions covered (though your child probably doesn't have any, but you want the option open if anything develops).
  6. call your insurance company there's usually a grace period.
  7. Most insurance companies cover baby for the month of and the month following the birth under the mother's premium. If you didn't add after that, then any money that you spend at the doctor's offices or at the pharmacy will be your responsibility. Medicaid will cover after that if you qualify. If the baby is under private insurance, like through your job, get that kiddo added ASAP. Best of luck!
  8. should have taken care of it as soon as you could instead of waiting an entire month. you may be able to come up with a payment plan or special leniency depending on the situation. but find out as soon as possible.
  9. Too bad. Try getting a job...
  10. I would call the insurance company and explain your situation. They may bend and accept you and then again, they may not. But no harm in trying. They might get technical over a day...but hopefully not....right?? Good luck and congrats on your little one!!
