When a pregnant woman snorts cocaine what health hazards does that have on the baby? I am just wondering because I have been reading a lot about drugs and alcohol in a health book. Thx.

1. There are many many many health hazards towards the baby. It can cause severe mental damage, deformities, and the baby can even go through withdrawals as soon as its born.
2. Probably alot - if it doesnt kill the poor baby, it will be addicted it
3. The child can become chemically dependent on the drug just as an adult can. You will give birth to a baby that is addicted to coke, if it survives.....I think this is a terrible question
4. That health book didn't describe the harmful effects of drugs on your baby? I don't really know the list of everything that can go wrong, but I think its a safe guess to say that it is a very STUPID idea to do any sort of drug while you are pregnant. Well, hell, any time for that matter, but at least when you aren't pregnant your only hurting yourself. But one sure fire consequence is your baby dying or living a life of health complications and pain, and it being ALL your fault because you made stupid choices. *Not meaning "you" specifically. As long as it really ISN'T YOU doing it!!

6. Apart from the fact that the Mother is a complete idiot who should not be having a baby if she can't kick her habit???? Well more then likely the baby will be addicted to coke and will need to be weened off of it. It could also account for endless disabilities that may not come to light until the child is older
7. It can damage the placenta. A healthy placenta is so vital to delivering a healthy baby. Premature birth, which comes with countless complications in and of itself. Then there is the baby born addicted. The baby would have neurolgical problems like shaking and seizures. Difficulty eating and hold food down... I don't know exactly where you could look but there should be a place on line where you can research the efftects.
8. I don't know all the hazards involved, but I am sure of one. It is called placental abruption and can be a danger to both the mother and the unborn baby. It is where the placenta gets weak and ruptures causing the mom to hemorrhage severely. The baby can miscarry and the mom can lose a lot of blood or even bleed to death. I had this happen 16 years ago when I had my daughter. An emergency C-section was done and they were able to save my child's life. I had lost 4 pints of blood and almost didn't make it. She and I could have died if it had taken any longer for us to get to the hospital.

It can trigger premature labor It also may cause an unborn baby to die or to have a stroke, which can result in irreversible brain damage. You would be twice as like to have a premature baby. The baby is more than likely to have a low birth weight. More likely to have babies born with smaller heads and smaller brains proportionate to body size Cocaine cuts the flow of nutrients and oxygen to the fetus, the baby may be much smaller at birth than it would be otherwise. Cocaine use also may cause the placenta to pull away from the wall of the uterus before labor begins (Placental abruption) can lead to extensive bleeding and can be fatal for both the mother and her baby Low-birthweight babies are 20 times more likely to die in their first month than normal-weight babies. Those who survive are at increased risk of lifelong disabilities including mental retardation, cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairment. Some studies suggest that cocaine-exposed babies are at increased risk of birth defects. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that mothers who used cocaine early in pregnancy were five times as likely to have a baby with a malformation of the urinary tract as mothers who do not use the drug. Babies exposed to cocaine before birth sometimes have feeding difficulties and sleep disturbances Beginning at birth, some exposed babies go through something similar to "withdrawal" from the drug Many are very jittery and irritable, and startle and cry at the gentlest touch or sound. Consequently, these babies are very difficult to comfort and often are described as withdrawn or unresponsive. Other cocaine-exposed babies "turn off" surrounding stimuli by going into a deep sleep for most of the day. studies suggest that they may have a greater-than-normal chance of dying of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Recent studies suggest that these children may lag behind unexposed peers in motor skills, at least through two years of age. So basically I am saying that someone that would jepordize a childs life at its most ecruciating stage in life (developoment) is not worthy of carrying a child perioud. Maybe the best thing for the baby would happen in this case and she will miscarry before she is to far along to cause serious harm to a child that has to live in agony. She needs her a$$ kicked for this, and people like this are low down scum.
10. First I am hoping that it is not you that is pregnant..you should of been reading these along time ago even if your not pregnant. If people wonder if they will have a normal baby all you have to do is go to your doctor and ask for a chromazone test done .. This is only done if you have alot of backround in your family to warrent such a thing ..Because of a heart condition and the fact that my mother had epilepsy-aunt severe cancer-other aunt grand mall seizures-uncle heart attack.chances of me having a normal child were about 1% as it was I had to have a hysterectomy in my 20's..I thank god every day that my husband had 4 wonderful boys and I am now a Grandma of the oldest (30) To of had a child that would be normal or not it still would have all the love that I could give. But to bring a child into this world knowing that the child is not normal WHERE IS YOUR MIND AT..????? Anyone hear of SUNLAND HOSPITAL for handicap children.? I worked there for years and saw so many children being dropped off by parents not even leaving their name Wards of the State If you are the one that is doing the DRUGS YOU MAKE ME SICK.................................................
