I am a house wife and my husband and I want to have a baby but my health insurance does not cover pregnancy.?
I found out that it will cost at least $10000 for just the delivery not including other costs such as monthly check ups, blood tests, ultrasound, etc at the doctor's office. I am more worried about getting pregant than enjoying the possible life with a baby because of the cost of having a baby. I have been trying to find a job for myself so that I can have better insurance but no luck for last 2 years. Is there any way, suggestion or tips of having a baby at reduced cost?

- Would you be eligable for medicaid?? It pays for everything.
- Check with the state insurance. We could not cover both of my pregnancies with our insurance . I went into the state and they put me on state health care. It is not very much money and after the child is born you just put them on your insurance. Good luck, and I hope you have a baby soon.
- Only if the world was perfect....
- it costs about 4000 all in, if you can't afford it the government will pay
- Contact dept. of family and children svcs. I didn't have ins. and was put on medicaid and the whole thing was paid for.
- You might want to check with the insurance company and see if they offer a rider that would cover just maturnity and child birth. The only other thing I can think of would be going through the city. Sometimes social services or the health department offer free health care to individuals that can not afford insurance. Good Luck!
- Check out Medicaid... Thats what happened to me when i found out i was prego... my insurance covered everything BUT pregnancy... Medicaid paid 100% and covered my baby for the first year after birth.
- Maybe you should look at your states' Medicaid program. You might be eligible for that.
- You can get health insurance from the state. What about your husbands insurance. Depending on your income you might be able to get some of the costs offset.
- u can get medicaid and food stamp if your husband don't make a lot of money and medicaid will pay for everything , doctor visits , and when u have the baby
- I hate to sound callous, but if you are worried about affording the pregnancy you are probably not in the right place financially to have a child. The words "reduced cost" and "child" do not fit together very well. Ask any parent.
- Medicaid from pregnant women and children. You can apply for it at your local human services dept.
- Depending on your income, you may qualify for some medical assistance through the state you live in. In Maryland, where I live, I went to the local health dept. and applied for a program that helps parents with children and pregnant women with medical costs. I would recommend calling your local health dept. or social services to find out if such a program exists in your area.
- Change insurance carriers or add a pregnancy rider onto this one.
- only if the world was at peace
- Having a baby is definately expensive. If your husband is the only one that has a job, I don't think you guys can afford to have a baby until you get a decent job. Since your husband's company does not offer health insurance for pregnancy, you can purchase healthcare from a company that sells health insurance (maybe Blue Cross). Make sure that you can afford the monthly payments and ask the representative what the plan covers and what it doesn't cover. If you guys are considered low-income couple, then you might even get financial assistance from the government. I would suggest that you guys start saving money now. You should have a plan before you get pregnant.
- well depending on the state u live in each state has programs that help with pregnancy's for example in California there is Medi-Cal which covers everything until u give birth after that u are covered for 60 days after that and ur baby will keep medical benifits--regardless of ur income I believe ur automatically covered if ur pregnant.
- You mean to tell me you have been looking for a job for 2 years and nothing? C mon now.....what is wrong with you? Maybe you should look into a little extra schooling before you go procreating.
- I would look into a midwife clinic. CNMs practice under the care of an OB and do hospital deliveries, while LNMs may do home births. It is MUCH less costly than using an OB, and CNMs are well trained (they have a master's degree in nursing in addition to a 4 yr degree and countless hours of practicums). You get a great standard of care, with most visits lasting 45 minutes (versus the 10 minutes you MIGHT see your OB per visit). CNMs do ultrasounds, prenatal care, deliveries, and postpartum care. If you can't afford to pay them upfront, most clinics will let you pay as you go with the balance due by your 30th week. If you decide to have a homebith, it is REALLY inexpensive, for less than a hundred dollars you can get a nice birthing kit, and your MW can provide O2 and other emergency equipment. Natural childbirth isn't for everyone, but pregnancy isn't an illness, it's a very natural state and MOST women have few if any complications. If you are healthy and nothing contraindicates a natural childbirth, I'd definitely check out the midwife options near you. Good luck!
