I am breast feeding my newborn and was wondering how long will be breasts feel tender and super large?

I plan to breast feed at least 6 months and was wondering during that time frame of 6 months will my breasts continue to feel so tender and large. Or does breast feeding get easier and do my breasts get back to their normal size while breastfeeding?

Public Response to I am breast feeding my newborn and was wondering how long will be breasts feel tender and super large?

  1. First month, they will stop being so sore and swollen then. The first month is killer they feel like rocks. Congrats
  2. about a week and a half to two weeks would be max I think. The first 2 weeks are the hardest...
  3. mine stopped after about 2-3 weeks then they felt normal just bigger
  4. Every woman's experience is different. Many women's breasts are somewhat larger during the whole nursing experience. What you may be experiencing depending on when you gave birth is your milk first coming in. during this period your breasts will be larger and more tender. Warm compresses help and nursing on demand will alleviate some of the tenderness. It will become more comfortable as your body adjusts to the baby's demands. Congratulations on your new addition
  5. For me it was about a month. Breastfeeding gets so much easier with time.
  6. Your breasts can get back to close their normal size right now if you nurse every 90-120 minutes. You don't have to be engorged; and that makes it harder for baby to nurse anyway. By about 6 weeks, you'll be feeling pretty normal, although you might still be enlarged :)
  7. After my milk came in, my boobs only hurt for a week. Some people are saying a whole month? I guess everyone is different..goodjob for making the decision to breastfeed as you are giving baby the best start possible(= As for the melons returning to normal size...yes they do, well at least mine did! Unless you go longer than normal without feeding. Then they'll get engorged. Pump if need be. Goodluck!!! And YES it definately gets easier..
