How safe are the johnson and johnson baby care products?

Just last weekend a friend told me she read in the newspaper that the johnson and johnson's shampoo causes cancer. But also i know that the powdered baby formulas are made with antifreeze but i know it is a very small amout. I am trying to figure out if it is really harmful to use the johnnson products

Public Response to How safe are the johnson and johnson baby care products?

  1. ok, this is hilarious. sorry but it is. you cannot seriously believe everything you read. just breathing the air around you can cause cancer! think about all the smog and other polutants that we breath in every day. and dont forget the rude people who blow their ciggaret smoke every where. guess we should all just hold our breaths and not breath in air or use anthing at all.
  2. if that is true then i would stay away from it... i never heard of such a thing though :)
  3. lol!! they've been around for over 100 years. i don't think that they're very effective. worry less & enjoy parenthood.
  4. That is silly. I have 4 kids and have used all kinds of different baby shampoos, i use aveeno baby but have used the johnson and johnson in the past but it gave my babys rashes from the perfmues. but i highly doubt that they cause cancer. that brand of baby wash and shampoo is the #1 used in hospitals for newborns, if it caused cancer they would not be using them...
  5. According to many studies and newspaper articles EVERYTHING causes cancer now adays. Seriously don't worry so much. If these products were really that unsafe they would not be allowed to produce them. Seriously. :)
  6. Antifreeze-they would be out of business. Watch how much powder you put on the baby. Its not good for your lungs or theirs.I like the Baby Magic products, the bath can just be squirted into the bath water and it will wash the hair as well this way. Babies do not need soap applied directly to their skin. Keep it soft for as long as you can.
  7. When I had cancer I researched the causes of it inside out and upside down and let me tell you EVERYTHING (just about) is carcinogenic. I got a list of all the household ingredients that are carcinogenic and threw out everything in my house that caused cancer... My bathroom cupboards were EMPTY! Every single body spray, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, toothepaste, cleaning products, soaps etc.. were ALL carcinogenic. The Johnson and johnson products are BOUND to use carcinogenic ingredients as it would be nearly impossible to make perfumed products or shampoo or conditioners or moisturisers without including something carcinogenic in them. I know the johnson and johnson products are not popular with natural therapists.. and they are drying on baby's skin.. but I wouldn't go so far as to say they are "unsafe" unless you are being extremely particular about every single ingredient... because even though they are carcinogenic it doesnt mean they are going to CAUSE cancer.... just that in large doses over a long period of time they may contribute to cancer. "Carcinognic" is just a word. Good luck.
  8. I heard this on the news the other day and I threw them out. Plus I heard Baby Magic products has cancer-causing chemicals in them too.
  9. I don't think that's true. I use Johnson & Johnson on my daughter and my mum used it on me and both my sisters. I haven't heard anything about it causing cancer though. I think it's still safe.
  10. powdered baby formulas are not made with antifreeze. you're thinking melamine - it's not part of the ingredient list, it just somehow ends up in the formula along with a whole lot of other crud. johnson and johnson's is no more carcinogenic than any other product containing SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulphate). check out "skindeep" - http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/browse.php?category=baby%20soap&showmore=products&highlight=103602&start=10&order=webscore%20INC&nothanks=1 they rank products (not just baby products, either) according to toxicity, carcinogenic potential, and so on.
  11. The J&J Shampoo had high levels of a carcinogen, which has been linked to health problems. It seems like everything can cause cancer these days. Just try to buy products that have fewer ingredients. Formulas with antifreeze is something that was happening in China at some point (not the melamine incident). These are not shipped to the USA.
  12. This story link may help you. Basically it's talking about how there are two chemicals (formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane) are found in trace amounts in baby items. However, it's at such trace amounts that all of the extensive studies they've done have shown no real health issues. The second link is a list of the cosmetics and the chemicals found in them though. I decided we'd switch to Aveeno. *shrugs* Better safe than sorry, right? We don't really know the effects of what seems to be a 'safe' amount on an infant. They react differently than adults.
  13. i have never heard such a thing. look it up online other than answers.
  14. wow. remind me to stay away from them.
