- no you dont do it until after they are born.
- generally you do that after the baby is born. check with your insurance. some insurances want a SSN or copy of the birth certificate. generally the baby is covered under the mom's coverage for a certain amount of time.
- need birth cert
- With Blue Cross Blue Shield, she was covered under mine for the first 30 Days of life. That gives you time to add the child to your policy, etc. Others might vary, but I would imagine my scenario to be common.
- You cannot cover a dependent under your insurance if they don't have a social security number. You don't get a social security number until you are born. While you are in the hospital with baby, you and baby should be covered by your insurance. With most insurance companies giving birth is a legitimate "change of circumstance" and you can cover your child immediatley after he or she is born. You will not need to wait for open enrollment. If you are using medicaid it isn't a bad idea to start the paper work now though. Best of luck new mommy!
- No. You need proof of birth before she can be covered.
- No, your baby will automatically be added to your plan at the hospital. Just make sure that you call your insurer within 30 days after birth to arrange a separate policy for the baby. Until then, the baby may as well be nameless in the system...he is considered part of your personal policy.
- you can't do that until she is born. they need her name
- u have to call your insurance provider and follow their instructions, it may be different from others; with ours, bc of me, my hub already had the 'family plan', so we just had to call within 48hrs or something and give them her name so that they could add it on for when the hospital bills came rolling in....it's was rather easy, but i imagine they all have different ways of handling; better to find out now rather than later that u needed to do something ahead of time, or that something was going to take 30 days , etc...
- After the baby is born.
