what is the best way to stop breast feeding, and how can it be down?

Our grand daughter is 19 months old and is still being breast fed,our daughter wants to stop but the little one becomes hysterical when she is denied. Any suggestions about how to stop breast feeding will be welcomed.

  1. WHO recommends breast milk till at least 2 years. my daughter is 26 months now and still loves her breast milk and she can continue to do so till she is ready to stop. tell your daughter to keep it up.

  3. has your daughter tried to pump her milk? i found this was the best way for both mine, i started pumping it in too a bottle and giving there a bottle then a breast then a bottle as so on, when they had got the hang of that i stopped pumping and make a bottle of formula, so then they got breast formula breast formula and so on. i did this until my milk stopped, it didn't take long a few a week ,i also found that i was having to top up with a bottle after most breast feeds. i statred pumping when they turnned 18 months and found by the time they where 2 they only had formula so it can take a bit but it worked fine for me, plus remember you are advised to breast feed till they are 2 years. hope this helps in anyway.
  4. Some parents continue to breast-feed til the child is 3 years old, just for your knowledge but if your daughter wants to stop, here's some advice (I think 19 - 22 months is a good time to wean). Your daughter can try using a breast pump, putting the milk into bottles and feeding her from that. Over time, start diluting it with cows milk or formula, subtly but surely so that she doesn't detect a major difference. Eventually she should be completely on cows milk or formula, for a drink - of course eating solids!! She's 19 months.   5. yeah, breastfeeding is good for child's development..dont be in a hurry to stop breastfeeding her
