Breast feeding to avoid pregnancy with minipill, how did that work for you?
I'm 29 weeks and plan to breastfeed when the baby is born. My doctor and I discussed birth control methods last visit and he said since I'm breast feeding that would be about 85% effective at preventing pregnancy and a mini pill would bring it up to 99%. Anybody have any experience with this? Did it work for you?

- it worked for me while i was nursing my daughter. i took the mini pill for a few months. it will only continue to be effective if you're exclusively breastfeeding though i think, but i'm not sure.
- i breastfeed and i have been taking the mini pill since my daughter was 6 weeks old and i have not gotten pregnant yet...i thought that when my daughter was breastfeeding less i would have to switch to a stronger pill but my doctor told me i don't have to so i am still taking it i only nurse my daughter at bedtime and i have been only nursing her at bedtime for about 4 months now and i always take my pill on time and i have still not gotten pregnant...just make sure you always take your pill on time!!! but there was another question that was asked on here a while back and it was another girl or woman taking the minipill while breastfeeding and she did get pregnant...but i don't know if she missed a pill or didn't take it at the right time...
- I just wanted to comment that as long as the baby's only source of food is breastmilk, I think that percentage is accurate. But 5 months when your baby is going towards solids and that, you're going to be at a much higher risk for unwanted pregnancy. I used nothing for a few months and went to some BC when my children stopped receiving 100% of their nutrition from breastmilk.
- I breastfed and took the mini pill. I didnt have any problems, I really didnt notice anything different while I was on it. I didnt get pregnant or have any scares. I would def recommend it.
