Is it necessary for the baby to sleep in a Crib?

Or can a new born sleep in a bassinet. I think cribs are really expensive and for the first couple of months Im sure newborns cry. Our room is far from whats going to be the baby's room and I would prefer the baby sleep in my room with my hubby and I or in a bassinet. Is that ok or would the baby be better off in a crib? Ill start saving up now lol.

  1. Drawer is fine.
  2. No, the majority of infants worldwide still don't sleep in cribs. They're are all sorts of other options, but co-sleeping is the most common alternative. It's very safe when done properly...an easy google. But, the sleeping arangement has to work for the whole family.
  3. there are things called Moses Baskets that I wanted to get that are much like a bassinet but they have handles so they can go on a bassinet holder or you can carry them around the house so the baby is always near.
  4. Bassinets are ok for them to sleep in, just keep a close eye on them. Once they start to roll, they can easily suffocate in the sides of the bassinets.
  5. A bassinet is fine for the first couple of months. Babies prefer to be in the same room with their parents, if you can stand it. The key, though, is not to pick up your baby at every cry - sometimes they cry in their sleep. If you pick them up, you'll wake them and disrupt their sleep pattern. Outside of the first couple of months, baby will need a crib though. The bassinet only works while your baby is very small.
  6. Get the bassinet I brought the crib first and ended up getting a bassinet and she even barely sleeps in that. Even check out a co sleeper the ones you put in the bed....because im a 1st time mom and the only way i was able to sleep is if she is really close to me or dad. She is almost 4 weeks and i just started putting her in the bassinet so the crib can def wait.
  7. i got a second hand cot for $50 from a neighbour and it is absolutely beautiful!!! but it is perfectly fine for the baby to be with you in a bassinet for the first few months. it is very convenient and causes no harm either. =]
  8. No, a crib is not necessary, my daughter slept in a bassinet next too our bed when she was a newborn, and I thought it was perfect, because I was right there when she cried and I didn't have to go stumbling through the dark to her room when she cried. I just fed and or changed her and put her right back down. It was much less disruptive for everyone, and I think it helped her to get back to sleep more easily too because she didn't have to cry much at all for me to hear her and everything could be taken care of quickly and quietly so sometimes she didn't even get woken up all the way.
  9. u dont hav 2 use a bassinet heck- ive heard of ppl using washing baskets- the cane variety, if u dont wanna fork out the money for somfin u will only use for a few mths then dont do it- my friend put her baby str8 into the cot, nothing wrong with that either and thats not somfin u can avoid buying! GL and do woteva u feel ok with!
  10. Bassinets are great for the first 2 or 3 months then it's time to get the baby use to sleeping all night in their crib. Doctors today would flip their lids but my oldest son actually did sleep in a dresser drawer at my mother-in-laws.
  11. My baby slept in her bassinet next to our bed until she was 5 months old. It was easier to have her close by and she didnt have much trouble transferring to a crib when she got to big for her bassinet
  12. A bassinet will only work for a few short weeks. If you dont want to invest in a crib, get a pack n play. They start around 50 dollars and you could use that as a crib. Right now, the baby is in our room in a pack n play, and her crib is in the nursury. Mommy to 6w 5d old mackenzie Lynn
  13. a bassinet takes up a lot of room- nearly as much if not more room than a crib with some styles! And you can only use them for a couple of months at most- my son was too big for one at three months. if you have room for a bassinet you usually have room for a crib. I purchased a convertible crib- it has a bassinet level and converts to a toddler bed for later on. you can get ones one that have built in storage drawers and change tables.
  14. yes it is necessary
