How do I feed and care a baby bat?

I found a baby bat in my garden last night. Aparently he felt from the hole where he lives, I know he is a baby because is small, his hair is just growing and he can not fly. I would like to take care of him until he can leave. ¿What can I do? Ok , I forgot to say, I live in Santa Cruz-Bolivia, in my country there is no such a thing like animal control or rehabilitation centers, so the case is simple, or I take care of him or he will die.

Public Response to How do I feed and care a baby bat?

  1. In most states, only a liscenced professional is allowed to handle and rehabilitate a wild animal such as a bat. I found a bat that had hit a wall and broken its wing. The best thing to do in that situation is to call Animal Control, or contact a rehabilitator. http://www.batworld.org/local_rescue/local_rescue.html Your heart is in the right place, but it's extremely delicate work. You would have to spend a great deal of time with the bat, buy special supplies, learn how to best communicate, find some way to house him until he's an adult, etc. -Alika613 ETA: Ahh! So then my answer is no good if you aren't in the US. http://www.intiwarayassi.org/articles/volunteer_animal_refuge/home.html The Inti Wara Yassi is the largest rehabilitation rescue in Bolivia, and they take in all sorts of rescues. You should contact them for advice or accistance, since they should prove very helpful. The language displayed can be changed, the map/language selection is on the upper left side.
  2. How about finding his nest and putting him back in it, so that the parents can take care of him? That what I would do if I didn't have access to a rehabilitation center. -- PA
