How long is jar baby food good for if unopened?

I am pregnant and thought about buying some baby food now to stock up but am not sure how long it is good for? Does anyone know? I don't want it to be unhealthy obviously. Thanks in advance.

  1. check the expiration dates before you buy them, it will give u a good idea on how long they last =]
  2. Look on the container. Each container has an expiration date that is based on the fact that you are keeping the jar in a cool dry place. If you store your food above the stove or sink, your food will lose nutritional value much faster. I would hold off on buying the baby food and just put money in a jar. Most people don't start giving the baby solids until they are at least 4 months old. By then, you will likely have learned to make some of your baby's food anyway.
  3. you honestly don't need to stock up on baby food ....your baby will not need it for 4 months and then just rice cereal..for the first month..
  4. I would not buy the baby food because you do not know what your baby will like. Also you will probably make your own baby food, its easy, cheaper and healthier.
  5. Lots of the jars last for at least a year or two but the date is very visible to see when you look at the jars. It wouldn't be a bad idea though especially if it's on sale! :)
