How do you make your baby sleep when she cries uncontrollably?

My 1 month old daughter sometimes cries uncontrollably. It is really scary. After feeding I burp her once (hope that is sufficient and right way). I try to make her sleep by putting her in my lap, put her in my hands like cradle, but she will not like that. She will get up in the sleep and start crying again. How would you make your babies sleep fast and sound? What burping method worked best for your baby at 1 month-2 month age?

  1. Well, first of all, you cannot MAKE a baby sleep. You may want to try burping her more than once. When my son was that age he had at least two good burps after being fed. As far as sleeping goes are you swaddling her? She may like this. Cradle her head in the crook of your arm and hold her bottom in the crook of your other arm and rock her that way. Once she's in a deep sleep put her down(if you wish).
  2. its more than just burping. that does help though. light burps about every 2 ounces or so... but babies like to be swaddled. they need to be kept close and feel secure.. they want to smell mommy because thats what theyre used to. maybe she needs a pacifier too? or maybe she's still hungry? hold her close, or looking over your shoulder. make sure shes not too hot or too cold. try turning on rain sounds or 'womb' sounds.. something wth a shhh sound. maybe even try swaddling her and putting her in a swing. good luck though hope she starts sleeping better! (she may be colic.. wihich case, all you can do is hold her and love her and be patient)
  3. are you feeding her enough? babies go through growth spurts where they need to eat more. will she take another ounce or two?
  4. The burping method that worked best for me was sitting them on my lap (leaning forward, supported by my hand in front) and bouncing gently. My son never had much trouble getting to sleep. For my daughter, putting her in one of those front carriers and walking around would have her out in minutes.
  5. She may still need to be burped. Some bubs need more than three times before all the wind comes up, like my bub did. But usually they should be able to get rid of it in her sleep by passing wind. I used every method for burping. Over the shoulder sitting bub on lap and hold her chest and neck up and patting back or rub upwards towards the head lying on lap, with one knee slightly elevated, have bub lying on the slope with head at top end. putting bub on tummy for a little bit rolling a towel and placing under bubs chest area and placing bub on tummy on towel and rubbing back holding bub in football hold, (stomach of bub on your arm and chest and head area closer to your hands and pat back i also swaddled my baby and still do to soothe
  6. Hi! swaddle her up nice and tight, burp her a lot more often during the feed, rock her, wear her in a wrap,do some skin to skin contact, go for a walk in the stroller even if it's through your house, feed her more milk. Good luck it's tough at first.
  7. every baby is different, some were born happy and some were born winny. new borns tend to have more gas than older babies because their digestive system hasn't fully developed. you should be patient with burping. my baby had lots of gas at one month age and i wasn't burping him correctly. later i changed to over-the-shoulder method and works really well. i usually burp him for 2 min. to get most of the gas out. my husband uses the sit-up method but make sure to support baby's neck. does your baby has colic?
  8. From birth, my son preferred to be upright on my shoulder when falling asleep and that was also the best way to burp him. We always tried to get at least 2 burps if not 3. He was always very gassy when he was a newborn. We'd hold him upright over our shoulder and walk around, rock back and forth, sing gently to him... there were many, many times we'd have to do this for long periods of time before he'd settle and fall asleep well. You should always put your baby to sleep on their back, so I also suggest swaddling. My son didn't like it, but a lot of babies do and they don't startle as easily, because they feel secure. The ONLY way my son would sleep was on his stomach. I know.. shame on me.. I don't recommend it, but that's what we had to do.
  9. Babies develop routines at their own time so dont force it and just enjoy being a new parent..Its not easy so just live through it coz next year this time, you'll be missing those moments. By 2 months or so baby should start sleeping. If you burp baby once and you dont feel any gas movements then the baby is fine. When the baby is gasy you can tell..and usually they start hicupping if you dont burp them good but dont frce those burps either coz sometimes babies just dont burp no matter what you do. Also remember that babies are supposed to cry
  10. Here is my strategy: Dim the lights and reduce the sounds in the house as much as you can. Help your baby settle down, if upset, with either gentle, rhythmic pats or soft, rhythmic counting. Wait at least 30 minutes after your baby has breast-fed or 1 hour after giving a bottle of formula before beginning massage. Cradle your baby on your lap, or lay her down in her favorite position. Start the massage slowly with strokes and exercises, paying close attention to the baby's reaction to the touch and movement. Gently fold the baby's knees up to the tummy (as far as is comfortable), hold for 15 to 30 seconds and release. Stroke legs gently. Gently hold both of the baby's feet and move the legs one at a time, bending at the knees as if riding a bicycle for 30 seconds. Bend the baby's legs at the knees, cross the legs, and rock side to side. Are you breastfeeding?Formula? If it is formula, you might try switching. Maybe she is still not satisfied,as in, full? Also, sometimes, you need to let them cry it out if you have exhausted all other ways of making her happy. There is simply nothing you can do sometimes. Make sure she is comfortable, and trust me it is VERY hard for a mother to do,but you will be on overload if you don't.
